Sometimes a song just capture everything you think and want to say in the most moving way. Lots of songs do this for me, music definitely moves me and lyrics express what I can't.

right now these lyrics speak to me the loudest:

Buju Banton: Untold Stories

I am living while I'm living to the father I will pray
Only He knows how we get through every day
With all the hike in the price
Arm and leg we have to pay
While our leaders play
All I see is people ripping and robbing and grabbing...
Thief never love to see a thief with a long bag,
No love for the people who are suffering real bad
Another toll to the poll may God help we soul
What is to stop the youths from getting out of control
Filled up with education yet don't own a payroll
The clothes on my back has countless eye holes
Chorus
Could go on and on, the story has never been told
Chorus
I say who can afford to run will run
But what about those who can't...they will have to stay
Opportunity is a scarce commodity
In these times I say...when mama spend her last to send you to class...
Never you ever play
It's a competitive world for low budget people
Spending a dime while earning a nickel
With no regards to who it may tickle
My cup is full to the brim

Jah Cure: Love Is

Hook:
Love is much more to life than just words
Love is much more than to say you love
Love is, call on me brother
Love is, call on me sister

First verse:
When you love someone, love from the heart
Cause love is the source, love is the answer for every question, just ask yourself why why
Love is the key, open the door
When there closed in your face
Love shows you the way, when you are lost lost and can't find your way

Hook

Second verse:
Love is the only thing we have to share
Don't you forget that, i hope you hear
Send them a message, you out there
I hope you get it clear yea
Do not mistake my .... Unmistakable sound
Whenever you see my face, always a smile
All the rest dem frown

Luciano: For the Leaders

Intro:
This is my appeal
To all your leaders out there, to stop the war.
Cuz theres no justifiable reason
It's about time..that you realize...that your not fulfilling your true purpose
Chorus:
This one's for the leaders, who are fighting war.
All over..the world
This one's for the leaders, who are fighting war.
All over..the world

Verse 1:
Think about the youths, who are dying out, (dying out)
Crying out (crying out) for love.
Victims of the system, we divide and grow
To break us down, & tear us apart
What is the future of the human race
How will the children grow to take our place
Where is the love that we should all embrace
I do believe it's here, for you and me

Chorus

Verse 2:
Thiiiiis one..is for, the leaders who are fighting war..
All over the wooorld
Imagine all the money, that you spend on arms
Guns and bombs, to destroy
While people are left hungry, to die from wants
And those who do survive are unemployed
What is the future of the human race
How will the children grow to take our place
Where is the love that we should all embrace
I do believe, it here for you and me

Chorus

Outro:
This one..This one...(for the children)...This one
Thiiiiiiss oooooooonnnnnneee, This one for the, This one for the
This one for the leaders
This one, this one is for the leaders...

and the lack of proper english is due to the fact these are reggae/dancehall songs.

Feel free to share lyrics of any genre of music that move you.

Ok, now shhh... this is just between me and you.

The Aerosmith song 'I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing'

I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
    While you’re far away dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure
Makes me think of my daughter and how blessed I am.

But don't tell anyone.

Ahem*

There're three songs that readily came to mind, all sung by the same guy, Michael W Smith. By the way, WW, I really like that Untold Stories one; don't think I've heard it, but the lyrics are really powerful

The first is This Is Your Time, which he wrote for the family of the little girl who was shot in the head at Columbine when she answered "yes" when asked if she believed in God:
It was a test we could all hope to pass
But none of us would want to take.
Faced with the choice to deny God to live,
For her, there was one choice to make.

This was her time. this was her dance.
She lived every moment; left nothing to chance.
She swam in the sea; drank of the deep;
Embraced the mystery of all she could be.

This was her time...

Though you are mourning and grieving with us,
Death died a long time ago;
Swallowed in life so that life carries on.
Still it’s so hard to let go.

This was her time. this was her dance.
She lived every moment; left nothing to chance.
She swam in the sea; drank of the deep;
Embraced the mystery of all she could be.

What if tomorrow, and what if today,
Faced with the question,
Oh what would you say?

This is your time. this is your dance.
Live every moment. leave nothing to chance.
Swim in the sea. drink of the deep.
Follow the mercy and hear yourself praying.

Won’t you save me?
Won’t you save me?

This is your time. this is your dance.
Live every moment. leave nothing to chance.
Swim in the sea. drink of the deep.
Embrace the mystery of all you can be.

This is your time. this is your dance.
Live every moment. leave nothing to chance.
Swim in the sea. drink of the deep.
Embrace the mystery of all you can be.

This is your time...
(won’t you save me? )
(this is your time)
(won’t you save me? )

The next is the song, Live The Life. It's really encouraging for me and a constant reminder that my words mean nothing if my actions don't back them up:

We’re passengers aboard the train
Silent little lambs amidst the pain
That’s no longer good enough
And when it’s time to speak our faith
We use a language no one can explain
That’s no longer good enough

And God knows it’s a shame
As we look to pass the flame
We are not the worthy bearers of his name

Chorus:

For the world to know the truth
There can be no greater proof
Than to live the life, live the life
There’s no love that’s quite as pure
There’s no pain we can’t endure
If we live the life, live the life
Be a light for all to see
For every act of love will set you free

There’s something beautiful and bold
The power of a million human souls
Come together as one
And each in turn goes out to lead
Another by his word, his love, his deed
Now the circle is done

It all comes back to one
For it is he and he alone
Who has lived the only perfect life we’ve known

Chorus

Note: When I found the lyrics for this song, there was a really cool and powerful quote at the start. I don't know if that was actually sung/said in the original album, but in the copy I have, he doesn't say it. None the less, I'm going to share it because it's such an awesome quote: "Preach the gospel to all the world, and if necessary, use words. -st. Francis of Assisi"

The last one is called I'll Lead You Home, and I have yet to be able to listen to it without tears coming to my eyes, especially when something is weighing on me that I'd done. Through those times when I feel all hope is lost, and nothing will bring me back, the words of this song come back to me and I know there is still hope. So often the troubles of life and my own actions make me feel as though there's no way back. This song reminds me.

Wandering the road of desperate life
Aimlessly beneath the barren sky
Leave it to me
I’ll lead you home
So afraid that you will not be found
It won’t be long before your sun goes down
Just leave it to me
I’ll lead you home

Chorus:
Hear me calling
Hear me calling
Just leave it to me - I’ll lead you home

A troubled mind and a doubter’s heart
You wonder how you ever got this far
Leave it to me, I’ll lead you home

Vultures of darkness ate the crumbs you left
And you got no way to retrace your steps
Just leave it to me
I’ll lead you home

Chorus 2:
Hear me calling
Hear me calling
You’re lost and alone
Leave it to me
I’ll lead you home

Chorus 2

So let it go and turn it over to
The one who chose to give his life for you
Leave it to me
I’ll lead you home

So let it go and turn it over to
The one who chose to give his life for you
Just leave it to me
I’ll lead you home
Leave it to me
I’ll lead you home

Chorus 2

Down, Learn From This Mistake.

I've come so close, it's almost hard to believe
When you're up close, it blinds you brilliantly
Just one rush can change your life forever
Just one push can end it all together

Why can't we learn from the plague that surrounds us
Learn from my mistakes
Learn from this mistake
Learn from our mistake
Learn from their mistakes

There's no shoulder to cry on when you have no shame
There's no finger to point when you are to blame
Open book, in my eyes shows you rain, then storming
I can't look, when covered by the nothing and the suffering

Learn from my mistakes
Learn from this mistake
Learn from our mistake
Learn from their mistakes
Learn from my mistake

Believe me, all my friends, in the ending of the story
There's no junkie out there with a happy ending
It consumes you, and haunts you like the devil
It's the art of the process that kills off all the rebels

Learn from this mistake
Learn from my mistake
Learn from our mistake
Learn from my mistake.

^Nice choice.

Mine would be: Pearl Jam - Sleight Of Hand

routine was the theme,
he'd wake up and...wash and pour himself into uniform
something he hadn't imagined being...
as the merging traffic passed, he found himself staring, down,
at his own hands..
not remembering the change, not recalling the plan, was it...?
he was okay, but wondering about wandering
was it age? by consequence? or was he moved by sleight of hand?
mondays were made to fall, lost on a road he knew by heart
it was like a book he read in his sleep, endlessly...
sometimes he hid in his radio, watching others pull into their homes
while he was drifting...
on a line, of his own, off the line, on the side
by the by, as dirt turned to sand, as if moved by sleight of hand
when he reached the shore of his clip-on world
he resurfaced to the norm
organized his few things, his coat and keys...
any new realizations would have to wait til he had more time, more time...
time to dream, to himself
he waves goodbye, to himself
i'll see you on the other side...
another man...moved by sleight of hand...

Well this song really touches me when I hear it.
Boys don't cry- the cure

I would say I’m sorry
If I thought that it would change your mind
But I know that this time
I’ve said too much
Been too unkind
I try to laugh about it
Cover it all up with lies
I try and
Laugh about it
Hiding the tears in my eyes
’cause boys don’t cry
Boys don’t cry

I would break down at your feet
And beg forgiveness
Plead with you
But I know that
It’s too late
And now there’s nothing I can do

So I try to laugh about it
Cover it all up with lies
I try to
Laugh about it
Hiding the tears in my eyes
’cause boys don’t cry

I would tell you
That I loved you
If I thought that you would stay
But I know that it’s no use
That you’ve already
Gone away

Misjudged your limits
Pushed you too far
Took you for granted
I thought that you needed me more

Now I would do most anything
To get you back by my side
But I just
Keep on laughing
Hiding the tears in my eyes
’cause boys don’t cry
Boys don’t cry
Boys don’t cry

For me the one that hits me the most is Dust in the Wind by Kansas

I close my eyes
Only for a moment, then the momen't gone
All my dreams
Pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind
All they are is dust in the wind Same old song
Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do
Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind, ohh Now, don't hang on
Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind Dust in the wind
Everything is dust in the wind
Everything is dust in the wind
The wind

This song always uplifts me, Makes me feel like i want to stand up and be counted and that we can pull together as people.

By a band called "Blue"

All I hear is voices in the crowd
They only whisper though they frown
People say "oh its such a shame"
Still they only look to pass the blame

If we can find a way to work things out
The only way to start is to start now

"When are we gonna stand up as people
Realise that as people were all equal
We dont want no world war sequel
For the love of god think of the people"

Children always learn by what they see
So we gotta practise what we preach
Don't you know its the game of life
We refuse when we choose to fight

If we can find a way to work things out
The only way to start is it start now

When are we gonna stand up as people
Realise that as people were all equal
We don't want no world war sequel
For the love of the god think of the people.

I pray before i sleep at night
That i'll wake to find a clear blue sky

When are we gonna stand up as people
Realise that as people were all equal
We dont want no world war sequel
For the love of the god think of the people.

Marina del Rey by George Strait

We said goodbye in Marina del Rey
"I had a good time" was the last thing I heard her say
As I walked away
And on the plane back to Tennessee
My mind comes across her memory
And yesterday in Marina del Rey

On a hidden beach under a golden sun
She spread a blanket that we laid down on
And loved the world away
In Marina del Rey
And as we looked into each other's eyes
We found our bodies lost in paradise
Like castaways in Marina del Rey

Like the ocean tides, highs and lows
Love sometimes comes and goes away
In Marina del Rey
And as this plane is touching down
Tears touch my eyes for I have found
My heart has stayed in Marina del Rey

On a hidden beach under a golden sun
She spread a blanket that we laid down on
And loved the world away
In Marina del Rey
And as we looked into each other's eyes
We found our bodies lost in paradise
Like castaways in Marina del Rey

We said goodbye in Marina del Rey...

Peace

Actually Baby Blue by George Strait is a better fit for this thread. It's about his teenage daughter Jennifer who died in a car crash in 1986.

She looked so much like a lady, but she was so much like a child.
A devil when she held me close, an angel when she smiled.
She always held it deep inside, but somehow I always knew
She's go away when the grass turned green
And the sky turned baby blue.

And baby blue was the color of her eyes.
Baby blue like the Colorado skies.
Like a breath of spring, she came and left,
And I still don't know why,
So here's to you and whoever holds my baby blue tonight.

She brought colors to my life that my eyes had never touched.
And when she taught me how to care, I never cared so much.
I try not to think of her, but I fall asleep and do,
And drift off where the grass is green and the sky is baby blue.

And baby blue was the color of her eyes.
Baby blue like the Colorado skies.
Like a breath of spring, she came and left,
And I still don't know why,
So here's to you and whoever holds my baby blue tonight.

And baby blue was the color of her eyes.
Baby blue like the Colorado skies.
Like a breath of spring, she came and left,
And I still don't know why,
So here's to you and whoever holds my baby blue tonight.

Peace

I know Contemporary Christian isn't the most popular music around here but these songs really moved me.

There's a long story behind how I heard this song for the first time but it simply changed my life. I wasn't the only one, just google it and see. The lyrics alone don't do justice to the passion in the singer's voice, he wrote this song after thinking about his father who had died recently.

I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk
By your side

I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When your face
Is before me
I can only imagine

[Chorus:]
Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the Son

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine

[Chorus]

I can only imagine [x2]

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you

This second one really moved me too. The first time I listened to it I was truly just sitting there thinking "wow"

Voice of Truth- Casting Crowns

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of faith it takes to climb out of the boat I'm in
Onto the crashing waves

To step out of my comfort zone
To the realm of the unknown where Jesus is
And He's holding out his hand

But the waves are calling out my name and they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
Time and time again. 'Boy, you'll never win!'
"You'll never win"

(Chorus)
But the voice of truth tells me a different story
And the voice of truth says "Do not be afraid!"
And the voice of truth says "This is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

Oh what i would do to have
The kind of strength it takes to stand befoe a giant
With just a Sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors
Shaking in their armor
Whishing they'd have had the strength to stand

But the giant's calling out my name and he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed
The giant keeps on tell me
Time and time again "Boy, you'll never win!
"You'll never win"

(Chorus)

But the stone was just the right size
To put the giant on the ground
And the waves don't seem so high
From on top of them looking down
I will soar with the wings of eagles
When i stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
Singing over me

(Chorus)

I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

How about The Dance by Garth Brooks.
Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared beneath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known you'd ever say goodbye

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I the king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd of had to miss the dance

RogueX, that Casting Crowns song floored me the first time I heard it, too. Ended up getting the CD the next day

I don't know if you heard the story behind Mercy Me's song, Homesick, but that one threw me for a loop. The lead singer (I think) had a brother-in-law who would always say that if he died, they couldn't sing Imagine, but would have to write another song. Jokingly, they agreed to do so, never guessing what lay in store. A while later the cousin was killed in an accident when he was 20 (heard the interview on K-Love with John and Sherry Rivers). That's when they wrote this song for him, which happened to be released right about the time I had lost someone special myself. I found an online interview made before the Undone CD was released (which contains Homesick), and he had this to say:

Millard: My brother-in-law, who was 20 years old, was killed in a car accident January 3rd of this year. Around that time, I went through a four- or five-week period where eight people passed away that I all had ties with. I was beat down, and his passing was the most unbearable pain I've ever felt in my life. It talks about getting the raw end of the deal when your loved one passes on and you stay here with the pain of not having them. Of course, having that person as an investment in heaven really makes you homesick all the more. We're just passing through this place, and heaven is our ultimate home. I never intended it to be a sequel to "Imagine" and I'd trade it in a second to have him back.

All I can say is, they nailed it:

You're in a better place, I've heard a thousand times
And at least a thousand times I've rejoiced for you
But the reason why I'm broken, the reason why I cry
Is how long must I wait to be with you

I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
I've never been more homesick than now

Help me Lord cause I don't understand your ways
The reason why I wonder if I'll ever know
But, even if you showed me, the hurt would be the same
Cause I'm still here so far away from home

I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
I've never been more homesick than now

In Christ, there are no goodbyes
And in Christ, there is no end
So I'll hold onto Jesus with all that I have
To see you again
To see you again

And I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
Won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
Won't you give me strength to make it through somehow

I've never been more homesick than now

Interesting followup to that last post of mine...There's a verse by Bob Dylan that keeps running through my head right now that ties closely with the Homesick song. The song has nothing to do with what is going through my mind right now due to circumstances in my life, yet ties closely with Homesick. The song is Don't Think Twice, It's Alright and the verse is,

"But I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talking anyway
So don't think twice, it's all right."

What's running through my head is slightly different, though...

"But I wish there was somethin' I had done or said
To try and make you change your mind and stay
We never did too much talking anyway
So don't think twice, it's all right."

Life is funny sometimes...

I love the Mercy Me song. My songs would be two U2 songs. The first one is called 'One' from their Achtung Baby album

Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you
Now you got someone to blame

You say
One love
One life
When it's one need
In the night
It's one love
We get to share it
It leaves you baby
If you don't care for it

Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without

Well it's too late
Tonight
To drag the past out
Into the light
We're one
But we're not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other
One

Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head
Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I got
We're one
But we're not the same
We hurt each other
Then we do it again

You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should

One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers

One life
But we're not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other

One

One.

and Walk On

U2 - Walk On

And love
Is not the easy thing
The only baggage
That you can bring
Not the easy thing
The only baggage you can bring
Is all that you can't leave behind

And if the darkness is to keep us apart
And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off
And if your glass heart should crack
And for a second you turn back
Oh no, be strong

Walk on
Walk on
What you got, they can't steal it
No they can't even feel it

Walk on
Walk on
Stay safe tonight

You're packing a suitcase for a place
None of us has been
A place that has to be believed
To be seen

You could have flown away
A singing bird
In an open cage
Who will only fly
Only fly for freedom

Walk on
Walk on
What you got
You can't deny it
Can't sell it or buy it

Walk on
Walk on
You stay safe tonight

And I know it aches
How your heart it breaks
You can only take so much

Walk on
Walk on

Home
Hard to know what it is
If you never had one

Home
I can't say where it is
But I know I'm going

Home
That's where the hurt is

And I know it aches
And your heart it breaks
You can only take so much
Walk on

Leave it behind
You've got to leave it behind

All that you fashion
All that you make
All that you build
All that you break

All that you measure
All that you feel
All this you can leave behind

All that you reason
All that you care

It's only time
And I'll never fill up all my mind(???)

All that you sense
All that you scheme
All you dress up
And all that you see

All you create
All that you wreck
All that you hate

Well first off is Stairway to Heaven, the but I have to admit that the song over was the touching part, the lyrics were pretty touching though.

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed
With a word she can get what she came for

Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
And you know sometimes words have two meanings
In the tree by the brook there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking

Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter

And it makes me wonder

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen

Yes there are two paths you can go by
but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on

Your head is humming and it won't go because you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady can't you hear the wind blow and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed
With a word she can get what she came for

And she's buying a stairway to heaven, uh uh uh.

Then there's Drunken Lullabies, which is one of my favorite songs. Believe it or not theres something to the lyrics;
Must it take a life for hatful eyes
To glisten once again
Five hundred years like Gelignite
Have blown us all to hell
What savior rests while on his cross we die
Has the Shepard led his lambs astray
to the bigot and the gun

Must it take a life for hateful eyes
To glisten once again
Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess
Singin' drunken lullabies

I watch and stare as Rosin`s eyes
Turn a darker shade of red
And the bullet with this sniper lie
In their bloody gutless cell
Must we starve on crumbs from long ago
Through these bars of men made steel
Is it a great or little thing we fought
Knelt the conscience blessed to kill

Must it take a life for hateful eyes
To glisten once again
Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess
Singin' drunken lullabies

Ah, but maybe it`s the way you were taught
Or maybe it`s the way we fought
But a smile never grins without tears to begin
For each kiss is a cry we all lost
Though there is nothing left to gain
But for the banshee that stole the grave
Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess
Singin' drunken lullabies

I sit in and dwell on faces past
Like memories seem to fade
No colour left but black and white
And soon will all turn grey
But may these shadows rise to walk again
With lessons truly learnt
When the blossom flowers in each our hearts
Shall beat a new found flame

Must it take a life for hateful eyes
To glisten once again
Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess
Singin' drunken lullabies.

This song is like my life story, they even got the county right.........

Copperhead Road by steve earl.......

Well my name's john lee pettimore
Same as my daddy and his daddy before
You hardly ever saw grandaddy down here
He only came to town about twice a year
He'd buy a hundred pounds of yeast and some copper line
Everybody knew that he made moonshine
Now the revenue man wanted grandaddy bad
He headed up the holler with everything he had
It's before my time but i've been told
He never came back from copperhead road

Now daddy ran the whiskey in a big block dodge
Bought it at an auction at the mason's lodge
Johnson county sheriff painted on the side
Just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside
Well him and my uncle tore that engine down
I still remember that rumblin' sound
Well the sheriff came around in the middle of the night

Heard mama cryin', knew something wasn't right
He was headed down to knoxville with the weekly load
You could smell the whiskey burnin' down copperhead road

I volunteered for the army on my birthday
They draft the white trash first,'round here anyway
I done two tours of duty in vietnam
And i came home with a brand new plan
I take the seed from colombia and mexico
I plant it up the holler down copperhead road
Well the d.e.a.'s got a chopper in the air
I wake up screaming like i'm back over there
I learned a thing or two from ol' charlie don't you know
You better stay away from copperhead road
