researching the SAS in North Africa

Hello everyone! I am a screenwriter in hollywood Ca. researching a film. I am currently writing a film about a legendary regiment of the SAS. Apparently there was a group of soldiers, mostly misfits and mentally difficient that were placed in a special unit and trained to be killing machines. They were so out of control by the end of the war that they would kill anything in their path, even their own troops. They were based in North Africa. My information so far is spotty at best and would love to hear from anyone with fresh information.

You will have to remember that information on the SAS is going to be very tight, so you may have some problems in finding out the information you seek, however should you come accross names, I wouldnt recommend in mentioning in them

One story about them has stuck in my mind.

They had a base by an oasis far south but used to head north to the coast (where the fighting mainly was) to attack. One trooper had to walk all the way back. He had a tobacco tin and he urinated in it so he could drink it. He did make it back but by the time he did his urine was like syrup, his body had extracted almost every piece of moisture from it.

Anyone who hasn't heard about the LRDG i'd say it's worth a look. These guys were very hard men from different walks of life from ex public school boys to working class men.
