University of Illinois researchers have found a way to produce energy from the Miscanthus plant,a tall willowy grass.Apparently it can be burnt like coal and is greenhouse gas neutral.

Trinity College in Dublin also is involved.
This looks like a potential new crop for farmers instead of growing subsidised grains which rot on wharves because there is no market for them.

Well, farmers could grow cannabis, which I don't know why they aren't. The are many potential economic uses of this plant in our society, one being a possible fuel.
I think your title is misleading.

I agree,non THC Hemp is an absolute wonder crop but the political will to allow its propagation is non-existant.
