Well, farmers could grow cannabis, which I don't know why they aren't. The are many potential economic uses of this plant in our society, one being a possible fuel.

University of Illinois researchers have found a way to produce energy from the Miscanthus plant,a tall willowy grass.Apparently it can be burnt like
coal and is greenhouse gas neutral.
