Iraq's President Jalal Talabani says that former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein confessed to crimes, including killings, to an investigative judge. Saddam is expected to go to trial in October for the massacre of Shiites in the Iraqi city of Dujail. If convicted he faces the death penalty.

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's president said Tuesday that Saddam Hussein had confessed to killings and other "crimes" committed during his regime.

President Jalal Talabani told Iraqi television that he had been informed by an investigating judge that "he was able to extract confessions from Saddam's mouth" about crimes "such as executions" which the ousted leader had personally ordered.

Talabani said that some of the confessions involved cases actively under investigation but he did not which ones. Saddam faces his first trial Oct. 19 for his alleged role in the massacre of Shiites in Dujail, a town north of Baghdad in 1982.

I think everyone knows Saddam is guilty, but I have to wonder how real or voluntary this confession is. It seems the new Iraqi government, along with the U.S., has come under criticism from the Iraqi people for the slow pace the Hussein punishment has been taking.

One thing is for sure.. people will never be satisified with the execution of Saddam. He served as a puppet for the United States at one time, and the conspiracies will travel long and far when he's executed that he's still alive.

This very confession will probably be used as some sort of "proof". He confessed to crimes to ensure his survival.

Playing Devil's Advocate here.. don't mind me

Confessed?!

Then it's time for in the infamous words of Judge Roy Bean, "Hang'em!"

I smell a rat here. Is this a possible ploy by his defense team to hope for a plea bargain of life in jail rather then death?

As for hanging! Nah that is too good for him, I say chop his head off like his insurgent followers are doing to others.

You kill Saddam and he'll become a martyr... it's really not what Iraq needs right now.

the "insurgents" have already forgotton what he did to other muslims [his brothers and sisters], if you kill him we could see more people join their ranks...especailly if the trial happens while America is still in control.

War is bloody hell or don't go to war!

Martyr schmartyr, too much PC insanity has oozed in to the minds of the brainwashed masses already. Execute him and his dna ceases. That touchy-feely mentality is likely to say yes to conjugal visits. Then the next thing we have is a dozen little Saydamits running around thinking they are destined to take over the Middle East.

Should of de-baathicated the entire country, now it's a quigmire of epic proportions.

Saddam commits suicide by hanging and fed to hogs, news at 5

Yes, fantastic idea.

What we can do is, arm the terrorists, tell them where the targets are and allow them to do the damamge?

We might as well if we are going to fill up their ranks.
