In the wake of this horrible tragedy, many people forget about the animals that have been abandoned by their owners, whether their owners had passed on or had to leave them behind during the evacuation process.

I was listening to NPR radio this morning on my way to college and the rescue workers were saying how stray dogs were running in packs all over the place, desperate in search of food, some of them eating the remains of humans. The rescue workers said that the strays would eventually have to be shot. It's ashame that some of them can't be saved or adopted out by shelters.

My heart goes out the every human and animal that is now without a home, or a loved one.

I suppose shooting the abandoned dogs is the only solution, it's really unfortunate.




Wow yes, that is soooo sad! There were some people on the news who were trying to smuggle their dogs along with them, and one kid at the shelter had his dog with him and the police came to take the dog I don't know where but the kid cried and cried, poor thing! Yes I imagine with the mass movement of the people traveling on buses and some on planes etc, it would be hard to take the pets with them, and yes the poor strays will become ferel after living out there like that especially after eating the dead bodies so they would have to put to sleep I imagine. It's so sad for humans and animals. They showed on the news how many dogs were stranded on like a floating piece of wood or on top of cars surrounded by water where they had been up there for days poor things. Wow what a mess! I know if that happened where I live and my cat was still alive I would definately want to take him with me! I would have been very upset.
