“An accident occurred aboard the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov in the course of routine missions at 16:27 Moscow time on Sept. 5. The pilot ejected from the aircraft,” Captain Igor Dygalo said.

The pilot is alive and in good health, but the plane slid off the vessel’s flight deck and fell to the bottom of the sea, Dygalo said.

The brake cable tore off the deck of the aircraft carrier, and the “plane rolled several meters along the deck and fell overboard. It sank to a depth of 1,100 meters,” he added.

depth charges would be used to destroy secret electronic devices that were on board the aircraft.

They don`t want the secret electronics to get into the hands of "the enemy", so they will now blow up the plane by using depth charges.

Two things come to mind.
Wouldnt the electronics by wrecked by the sea water?
I suppose in theroy if the electronics were dryed out in the sun they might still work. The second thing that comes to mind is the depth of the water it must be quite shallow if they are concerned about other powers Salvaging the aircraft.
