I am not fully up to speed on the Peak Oil topic but I thought this article was interesting. Article . It seems that Shell has developed a new inexpensive way to extract Shale Oil In Situ by simply heating the deposits. The article says that for every input of energy 3.5 can be extraced, making the method ecomomicaly feasible if oil prices are at $30/barrel. Apparently the us has a huge supply of shale oil in Colorado.

With the current Geopolitical environment the US is going to keep involving itself in war and politics in the middle east until sufficient reserves can be secured elsewhere.

Does anyone think that a new supply of oil in the US would keep america out of the middle east or would it simply lower the price of oil, keeping America hooked on its fossil fuel habit.

I think that no matter what happens with the north american supply of oil, the us will still stay involved in the mideast until the fossil fuel habit is kicked.
