There is also a rather popular crop circle event that had a supposed reply to this message.

Even the Crop Circle believing experts declared it a hoax though.

The message held the same image with alterations to the location for the aliens to the sun and it had a Triple Helix design for DNA

Put smiply,
(assuming they exist) If they wanted to get our DNA code all it would take is a single sample. The ability to decode and map DNA we allready have. I'm sure they would have a more simple and easy way too.

There are over 6 billion of us to take a sample from.

Sending it out into space was not a bad idea, because it shows we are willing to share secrets for secrets in return. Why not share benefit, it's how nations are built.
