“But perhaps the greatest disappointment stands at the breached 17th Street levee. Touring this critical site yesterday with the President, I saw what I believed to be a real and significant effort to get a handle on a major cause of this catastrophe. Flying over this critical spot again this morning, less than 24 hours later, it became apparent that yesterday we witnessed a hastily prepared stage set for a Presidential photo opportunity; and the desperately needed resources we saw were this morning reduced to a single, lonely piece of equipment.

If he didn't go, he'd be accused of being uncaring -- after he went he's accused of staging and photo-ops.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't... :shk:

U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu (Democrat Senator who represents Louisiana in the Senate) issued a statement on September 3rd, saying that events are being staged to manipulate public perceptions of disaster relief.

It seems that some folks want to push this story off of the front page. This surely important enough that it deserves a bump back up to the top.

will not be placed in difficult to manage situations.
the staged scenes are intended to be accurate representations of
activities which are actually taking place in the larger theatre of operations.

Isn't it possible the equipment is simply no longer needed in that spot? From what hear that levee has already been fixed or nearly fixed....

This is one of the most absurd notions that I have ever seen presented on ATS. It is little wonder that the U.S. is going to hell in a handcart if anyone actually believes treating the President's personal appearances in the area of katrina's devastation like an episode of "West Wing" is appropriate. If that is the case we need to start selecting our politicians by a casting call rather than an election.

I wonder why Mr. Bush was not taken to the NO downtown or the dome when the people were dying outside.

And you think any other president would have had pictures taken of him close to dead people?...
BTW, since you are all complaining that the administration is trying to "sugar coat" what the hurricane has done,
why is it that most of the media have not been reporting on how and why have been so many dead after the hurricane, and many of them have bullet wounds?
