"They" can't always save us.

"They" (the government) can't always save us. This disaster shows well that in the battle of man vs. nature, nature can simply beat individuals and entire governments. It's pretty weak to say that it's 'they're fault,' and that 'they should have, could have, shoulda have,' etc. 'They' are working like crazy to help people and remedy this disaster and the only limits have been logistics and resources vs. the situation.

The idea that the US government can apply an instant bandage and remedy the impact of a Carribean-borne natural 500-megaton nuke has probably been created by 70 years of Hollywood images of American oil drillers flying into space and blowing up planet-killer asteroids. While this country certainly has power, the idea that it can't hit a wall or even a speedbump is a fantasy set into peoples' minds so strongly that not even Katrina can blow it out.

Even in the bosom of civilization, a city, nature can get us. The reason people are so enraged by the lack of relief and rescue and flinging accusations of racism or incompetence is that we just can't conceive of the fact that a natural disaster can possibly temporarily overwhelm the rescue / relief ability of a country the country that 'put men on the moon.' Well, it can, and 'they' can't always save us.

Quite the feeling I got seeing some people complaining. We are talking about a huge disaster area. Certainly, when you're in it you wouldn't understand, but people look around you and think for a minute. It is easy looking at individuals, this is for the time being not a game for individuals. Your government has to look at the big picture.

Take the size of the disaster area and put it in your minds over your hometown, when do you think there will be enough choppers, schoolbusses or other aid to save not only you but other people as well?? Organized relief efforts are more efficient but take more time, in the end it'll save more lives.

Why drop a tray of bottled water in between 20 (ore more) thousand people knowing they would kill each other over it.

Do you call playing Golf working like crazy? Do you call playing tennis working like crazy? Do you call buying expensive shoes working like crazy? Do you call denying all forms of help working like crazy?

Bush is god damn responsible for this whole mess he didn't do anything. He just let those people starve, he wouldn't let them cross the bridge into the next town. A ship with food and water has been sitting off the coast for a week and Bush has not let it go and help. Food has been sitting in trucks and nobody has given the order to deliver it to the people only blocks away.

You can try and spin all you like but people aren't as dumb as you want them to be. Go back to your boss and tell them we won't take your nonsense anymore. Heads will roll for this genocide, head will roll.

Just can't buy it, there is no way FEMA should have taken this much time to "organize" this relief effort, this is what they do and it is not suppossed to take this long! And there is no way that in the end the delay saved more lives because it was more organized by the time they got there.

True they can't always save us we have to help ourselves but when we can't the gov. better. that is why we pay federal tax, state tax, sales tax, county taxes, city taxes, property tax, income tax....

Yeah, 'it' was more organized by the time they got there. The Dome and convention centers were daily developing into models of organization. And people actually grow less hungry and thirsty as time goes on. If you mean more organized as de-evolving into absolute chaos and misery, then yes, they were more organized by the time 'they' got there.
