NEW ORLEANS - Police shot eight people carrying guns on a New Orleans bridge Sunday, killing five or six of them, a deputy chief said.
Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said the shootings took place on the Danziger Bridge, which connects Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.
He said he had no other details.

This news is just breaking and details on what took place are very limited at this time.
This sure does not sound good, but I guess it was inevitable that some hold out thugs would be shot before this tragedy ends.
More details as they become available.

yeah definetly sounds as if it was justified to me...I hate how people always seem to make it the cops fault for doing what's right...this sounds
like it might have been an armed gang advancing on police.

Question:
If you were in New Orleans right now and owned a gun would you not be visibly "carrying" it?
I hope to hell these people were shooting at the cops, or else it was just shooting fish in a barrel.
.
Edit: What are the supposed "rules of engagement" in this situation? Shoot first or only return fire? Anybody know?

Did they return fire?
One would have to assume so at this time.

I bet we hear some real horror stories of violence after this is over. Both from the Superdome and city itself. One guy interviewed said it was like
a prison riot. I also hate to say it, but I bet you hear alot of stories of race based crime not unlike the LA Riots a few years back.

This is gonna turn out to be bad. The police are overwhelmed with too much work givin that many have left work. Let's hope for the best.
I guess it took me too long to reply. Man this just plainly sucks.

I have to wonder did the cops just shoot them out of the blue? I mean I can't imagine a bunch of army contractors turning their guns of the cops when
confronted. Somethings seriously going wrong down there.

Honestly I can't see any sane person going anywhere there unarmed. This news is disturbing on so many levels, like everything coming out of NO these
days. Cops shooting at anyone who is justifiably armed for self protection, and news earlier on cnn that they are seizing (yes seizing not securing
for transport which would be justifiable) evacuees weapons, paints a bleak picture. Last I checked the second ammendment still applies in the US,
maybe I was wrong though.

This just in on Fox:
The Army Contractors were 'shot at' by hoodlums. The police shot and killed the guys who shot at the contractors.
Update: The contractors are fine, not hurt.

I am sorry, but things are getting out of hand down there, and I would not be surprised by the quick reaction of the police, responding to some Black
Men without uniforms, but armed with weapons.
