On Fark.com, someone suggested a clothing drive.

I was thinking, what we could do here is have designated people who live in or near the affected areas. We could mail clothing, etc., to the designated people, and they could donate those items. Or we could find the address of the Salvation Army or whoever down there and mail the items. A donor could contact a designated person by U2U and get the address.

I have some boys' clothes sizes 3 and 4 I'd like to get rid of, and maybe some of my old clothes as well.

I don't know if you can send canned goods in the mail (don't see why not), but that'd probably work too.

I called a Salvation Army in Houston and asked what would be the best thing to do. She said they need toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, sanitary napkins, deodorant, TP, etc. just look around in your bathroom, they need it) AND clothes, just about everything, but toiletries was the most needed item.

She said Baton Rouge is overwhelmed with refugees and Houston as well. The packages would be VERY much appreciated and would be distributed to the areas in most need by the Salvation Army.

Mark Hurricane Relief on your packages.

I wasn't sure if they'd distribute things from here in Ohio or not, but SkepticOverlord said they did.

Thanks!

I mostly have clothes...I'm sure they need some clean clothes down there too. Especially people who have only the clothes on their backs.

I have heard non perishable food items and toiletries were the most needed supplied and of course bottled water.

I think no matter were you live you can find an agency that is doing the gathering in your area if you look. I know here we have several.

Just take what you want to give to one of them. Also make sure the food is non perishable I know they will not accept any that is not.
