k, I don't normally do this but.

In the past hour there were reports of a series of explosions in the central washington area with flashes of light and booms.

I'd ignore this but several other people began reporting this and reporting communication difficulties.

Has anyoe in the WA/OR area seen or heard anything?

Yep, I heard a bunch of booms about an hour ago, I live in Everett Washington.

I should be in bed for school... but this has got me interested. There has been nothing posted on CNN or FoxNews from what I can see, so I'm listening to a Seattle radio station. 710 KIRO I believe, bu they have nothing playing but music. Surely if something major happened, they'd have news bulletins and such going?

There has;nt ben anything on the local TV news, have'nt checked the radio.

And I agree, something like this should be on the news, yet it has not.

Perhaps these flashes and booms could have been a series of Ball Lightning? I know these things have been mistaken as Fireworks and explosions on occasion... and in Mexico as a supposed UFO. Perhaps this is the same thing? Other than that... I'm clueless on what it could have been.

I've never, EVER witnessed or heard of ball lightning being mistaken for something noteworthy or possibly an hazardous incident or major explosion.
Nerd, is there a possibility that this is a joke or hoax someone is trying to pull?

Not a hoax or a joke I'm afraid.

I'm thinking possible seismic activity, there has been a lot of it in the past few days.

What color were the flashes of light? Also, what was the timing between booms?

I'm only sayin Ball lightning because people who do not know what it is, may mistake it for an explosion. When I lived in Boone, North Carolina we had ball lightning, which after echoing off the mountains sounded just like explosions. If this happened in a mounatainous area, it may be possible. But I may be dead wrong. Just a thought of mine I felt like sharing.

Crap, Nerd. I hope it's BS as it's not needed right now!
DH, I didn't mean to insult, I just feel that is a bigger stretch than my hope of a goofball joke.

I know it's a stretch... and i didn't take any offense. I just felt like posting the only thing I experienced that may have been thought. Probably more of a chance that it was a UFO crash, but I still felt like posting. I only posted to better explain why I thought it may be that.

I just searched some regional wire feeds, I could find nothing.
Tried national feeds as well..nothing so far.
Still looking

True,
But why would regular media waste a perfectly good opportunity to freak us all out, just a little more..

I still can't find a thing on this story..

A random sampling of Washington State newspapaers and TV stations shows nothing unusual.

As this is not strictly board business, I'm gonne move this the Other Current Events. Perhaps more members can se it there.

I didn't hear or see anything and normally anything will wake me up. Nothing on the local news this morning or local news websites.

We're all fine here.
