I think the no tolerance policy is a good thing, if you go around shooting at rescue personeel your dead, or if you want to go on a crime spree your dead. No due process necessary when the courts are underwater.

Yeah, and then the ones you prosecute come out in their trial and say "Well THEY stole too, why didn't you arrest them?" and get off on a technicality.

Given the scale of this nightmare, which will certainly last for months, do you honestly think ANY of that is a priority???

the people who deserve to get shot should get shot and the rest should not......

Screw the people looting TV's and jewelery, the highest priority should be to rescue people and hand out supplies to keep 'em alive, not to protect property.
If some thugs start shooting at the rescue workers, then the police and military should return fire, but it's a dumb idea to provoke thugs to shoot at the authorities and rescue workers, that's exactly what this "no tolerance" policy is doing. One guy killed his sister over a bag of ice, do you really think he's going to give a rats a$$ about a "no tolerance" policy?
These people will trust authorities and rescue workers less than what they already do, and it will probably only get worse

To PROVOKE them? They are ALREADY shooting at them and have been since LONG before this order came out. They've already shot a police officer in the face, that was sometime yesterday, or the day before.

Amazing, but not surprising, just how close to savagery our "society" really is, and how the individual's basest instincts are always lurking just under the surface of civilized conduct. I know, but when you have a no tolerance policy and shoot at peeps who are looting but not shooting you provoke them, and then they might return fire -> more cops, soldiers and looters shot, and maybe even killed.

I mean if you were a soldier in NO and you see a looter running off with a TV, not shooting at you, then you start firing at him, he drops the TV and it breaks, he gets mad and pulls out his gun and starts to return fire, then you provoked him to shoot at you, because of a silly ol' TV, get my point?

The looters are not a big organized entity, not all are violent, not yet at least.
