Well, thats pretty much what I took from Bush's speech today. One part that caught my attention was

The Department of Energy is approving loans from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to limit disruptions in crude supplies for refineries. A lot of crude production has been shut down because of the storm. I instructed Secretary Bodman to work with refiners, people who need crude oil, to alleviate any shortage through loans. The Environmental Protection Agency has granted a nationwide waiver for fuel blends to make more gasoline and diesel fuel available throughout the country. This will help take some pressure off of gas price. But our citizens must understand this storm has disrupted the capacity to make gasoline and distribute gasoline.

What REALLY caught my attention was the last line. Namely, "distribute". Bush doesnt ever talk about gas prices. I think this was just an intro. I bet stations are going to start running out, and soon...maybe not this week, but soon....we're gonna start seeing lines that make the 70s look weak.












But then again, I also think that Katrina might have been man-made.....but thats for a different post.

Right after Dennis came through my neck of the woods several weeks ago, we ran into gas shortages, although they weren't officially talked about. However, after talking with some of the gas station owner friends in the area, I found out that they were having difficulty getting their deliveries from their sources. One of their suppliers stated it was because of the extra demand created by those escaping the storm's path and also resupplying the Florida panhandle area after people bought a boatload of the stuff.
The point of my rambling is, our supply of gas seems to be a pretty fragile thread. We might soon see some real causes for concern.

Well, Ive been puttin in 10 a day. Tonight I put in 20. I want to get it full, then just put 10 a day in or something, so when the # inevitibly hits the fan Im ready....

This does remind me though, of a faux documentarie I saw a few months ago "Firestorm", I think thats what it was called, it was very similiar to whats going on now.

Pretty scary.

which is where? I just really think that this is the tip of the iceberg. 9/11 didnt make gas jump that much, and this is whole city and region of petroleum producers. First round, the financial strike, second round, fuel strike.....whats the third and final blow, i wonder?

i was 18 had a 69z-28 gas was .56 cents and i worked in a gas station. i had no problems but the rest of the people whew they were nuts. I rememeber a man filled it up it was an odd day ( only plates that ended in an odd number can get gas ) he went straight to the end of the line came up said fill it up .10 cents. was all it took. he did it all day long why? panic i think. now i really think people will be killing each other for their gas.

Molokai has two gas stations. Recently they were told to mix the premium unleaded and regular unleaded to extend stocks until the barge with the gas arrived to refill the stations. Someone at the gas station heard this and called a friend to say they were running low. The friend called his friend and said they were running out of gas, and didn't know how much more they had, they called their friend and said they were running out and the barge wasn't coming for another month. The next day when the barge arrived, both gas stations were totally out of gas, because the entire island panicked. Self-fulfilling prophecy. I'm not saying that some gas stations WON'T run out due to Katrina, but it's possible that SOME of the shortage, will be because of a situation like this one, where people panic and run to the gas station to fill up and they drain the station.
