It was unfortunate for America that Katrina hit at such an arkward time, well, it was unfortunate that the hurricane hit at all.
The cost of petrol will continue to be high providing there is sufficient demand to bolster the prices.
Also, I'd like to add that oil is not running out; our share might just be peaking, which means we've used half of it. Ideally, this shouldn't be
a problem but because the worlds attitute towards energy policy generally stinks, it means we face a lot of problems due to supply shortages and
demand++.
The only way prices will cease to go up is if people realise that there needs to be an attitude change towards energy policies -- which won't happen
until crude reaches $100+, at which time it'll be too late.
At the moment we are fighting a war against mother nature, and make no mistake -- Mummy will win if we don't appease her, sharpish.
