We spend a lot of time looking at the "War on Terror" as we see it in Iraq, but we often forget to look at the past.

One does not need to go back that far to see armed forces used on domestic soil to squelch the acts of a handful of terrorists......

I for one rember very clearly what was know as the " October Crisis" (1970)
en.wikipedia.org...

A handful of separatists ( Wanting to create there own country within Canadain borders by making the province of quebec an independant nation)

Pierre Elliot Trudeau( argueably the one of the most influencial leaders in canadian history) invoked " The War Measures Act"

en.wikipedia.org...

What do I remember?

Armed personel carriers in the streets while kids waited for school buses
Oil refineries with Army protection
British Diplomats being kidnapped
A Quebec diplomat kidnapped and executed
Mailboxes rigged with explosives

All this was achieved by a relelativly small group of "Activists" known as the Front de libération du Québec en.wikipedia.org...

Let's call it Martial law.... but it solved the problem

I just thought there were some interesting parallels to what we are seeing today in IRAQ

While I agree with the statement I don't agree that it has the same sort of relavance as the parallels with Quebec and Iraq
Tactics like kidnapping, execution, IEDs are the things that make them similar
