AMSTERDAM ( Reuters) -- The Netherlands will this week become the world's first country to make cannabis available as a prescription drug in pharmacies to treat chronically ill patients, a top Dutch health official said on Sunday.

The Dutch government has given the country's 1,650 pharmacies the green light to sell cannabis to sufferers of cancer, HIV, multiple sclerosis (MS) and Tourette's Syndrome in a ground-breaking acceptance of the drug's medicinal use.

I feel an attack of glaucoma coming on. Really bad one. Can't see the keyboard to work.

A friend of mine has MS and has been using Canabis sativus for years for medicinal purposes. It would be nice if she could purchase it from somewhere besides her local drug dealer! I hope other countries wake up and start offering it through pharmacies. Would insurance companies have to cover it I wonder?

What the article doesn't say is that it's way more exspensive than the cannabis you can legally buy in a coffee shop.
Normally about 5 euro's per gram. This stuff is 44 euro's for 5 grams.

So the coffeeshops still won't be losing any clients...

Well perhaps a few, who rather not visit coffee shops.
And the pharmacy cannabis is tested for diseases and quality.
