CARACAS (AFX) - The Venezuelan navy plans to acquire three submarines, said Vice Admiral Armando Laguna.
Laguna said the Venezuelan government has already received offers from Germany, France, Italy and Russia.
He noted that no date has been set for the acquisition.

2005:
The Department of Defence announces that Canada's four Oberon-class submarines are to be sold for scrap for about $50,000 apiece. The navy says the subs have deteriorated too much even to be used as museum pieces.

I wonder if this is true or just another report designed to stir and scare the over-sensitive in the US.
For instance; those Mig 29's have been a long long time coming, hmmmm?
Ten aircraft are due to be delivered within 18 months of the contract being signed, which also involves setting up a MiG 29 maintenance center in Venezuela, according to air force officials who outline plans for long-term supply and maintenance. “Future deliveries will be made with the participation of the specialists of the Venezuelan air force in the joint assembly of the planes and their test flights following their assembly on Venezuelan territory,” say letters of intent with Russia.

As such, care to express or detail how long in coming? Some may get confused as to what you insinuate, sminkeypinkey.
Are you referencing as early as late 2004, or what, specifically?

Chavez may be bold but he isn't stupid - He has lots of oil and the US isrunning out. Did you know that the three major suppliers of oil to the US are Canada, Mexico and Venezuela?
I would be arming up for protection just like him.
Besides - you can't all be scared of 3 subs can you? You boast about the most sophisticated and expensive military in the world - blah, blah, blah - we can beat anyone up.
Yet you let these statistics scare you.
You can't stop people from wanting a little protection. Especially people who are being talked about like they are the greatest threat since... hm... since Bin Laden.
Boy, he seems to have outlived his usefulness.

No one in this thread expressed any concern over those three subs so what are you talking about?
