There are some stories that are just too odd to pass up. Here's a website that proposes creating genetically engineered deer that glow in the dark so that motorists won't hit the dear when driving along after sunset.
www.genetiate.com...

(this person really does NOT have a genetics lab in their basement... google it out for yourself andt the company is nonexistant) I'm not sure if this is a school project or a web design project or what -- but it sure is a fun and silly idea!

(getting the thing to breed true is a real problem...)

Heh, that's pretty funny. I loved the comparison picture:

You don't wear the night vision goggles, the deer project the image for you

So the person is going to combine the genes of a deer and the genes of night vision goggles to create a transgenic species that glows in the dark! Brillian! I think we should start investing...but before you try to help him out, would you like to buy some of my powered water?

great find, Byrd

Only if they like doing it in the dark

So they're gonna try and make this like the glow in the dark transgenic sunfish? It's doable but why do it? Aren't deer considered a pest noadays? Or is this for the safety of the drivers on the road.

O.K., so the glowing dear run out in front of you as your driving down the highway or really even a road.. you see'm and what's next. I have seem some horrific results to Humans that came upon dear and moose while driving. Glowing or no, no time to stop = impact. And sometimes death to beast and human.

Oh, my...
I know some good old boys around here that are going to love this...

No bright lamps on a noisy pickup and no rifle shots...just a good composite bow and those nicely glowing deer.

Somehow i think there's going to be a problem here in Canada...the Ministry of Natural resources are going to freak.

BTW...ever hear of those deer whistles you can put on your front bumper?
They work and you don't have to genetically alter deer or moose or bear or...argh...never mind!

Here ya go Byrd from here:www.museumofhoaxes.com...

Genetiate is a division of Geneticas Life Sciences. Those are the same people who, through yet another division, are creating the hypoallergenic cats. But why create a glow-in-the-dark deer? So that it will more easily be seen by motorists. The site gives this explanation:
"By implanting the gene of a special jellyfish into deer, the transgenic NIGHTSAVE deer produced by GENETIATE (patent pending) have fluorescing hair and skin when illuminated by car headlights. The implanted gene has no other effect on the deer, who appear normal in daylight."

And then a 'google' of Geneticas Life Sciences found this: stemcellsclub.com... (An interview with the CEO)

Animal Services - The Animal Genesis division is tasked with producing commercial animal clones (cattle, horses, companion pets) and transgenic animals.

- ForeverPet: ForeverPet offers pet owners the service of storage and preservation of Genetic Material for cats and dogs, in preparation for the institution of animal cloning.

- Allerca: Allerca is a division of Geneticas in the process of developing a non-allergenic cat. Having established an exclusive partnership with the lead scientific team that began research and development for the non-allergenic cat, Allerca projects that we will see the first ever by the end of 2005. The cat will be created by the genetically engineering the elimination of the protein, which, found in a cat’s saliva, causes an allergic reaction in humans.

- GenEquus: Working with the team that cloned the first equines, Genequus offers equine gene banking and equine cloning. Genequus plans to license some of the top thoroughbreds in the world for DNA sampling and, in the next two years, cloning.

- Geneticas Ark: The Geneticas Ark is aiming to develop the world's largest gene bank of rare and endangered animals before they disappear forever. Storing the preserved genetic material of these rare species provides the opportunity for their legacy to live on when animal cloning becomes a viable option.

They have a human services division also...had no idea companies like this actually exist...cool find
