Olivia Newton John has released a handwritten statement pleading for help and information on the mysterious July disapearance of her long time boyfriend, photogapher Patrick McDermott. Patrick disapeared after an overnight fishing trip which left San Pedro, 20 miles south of Los Angeles on June 30 and returned the next day. It is believed that on the return voyage Mr McDermott paid his fare to the captain about 4 miles out and hasn't been seen since. His ex-wife reported him missing on July 11 after his car was found still parked in San Pedro Harbour carpark. Olivia was out of the country at the time and it is believed she has hired LA-based Gavin de Becker a respected security agent to aid in the investigation.

Patrick McDermott was last seen on June 30, aboard a charter fishing vessel that left that morning from a Los Angeles port on an overnight trip. Authorities say they do not know if the 48-year-old cameraman was lost at sea or returned to port before he went missing.

"For those of us who know and love him, it has been a truly heartbreaking experience," Newton-John said in a written statement, her first public remarks about his disappearance. "I have offered my full cooperation to the authorities who are continuing to investigate the circumstances of his disappearance and we are hopeful that eventually we will find some answers.

"I am grateful for all of those who have expressed their concern. I would simply ask for your continued support and prayers for his safety and well-being and for that of his family."

Some other passengers reported that they saw Mr McDermott leave the ship when it docked, while others say they are not sure. All Mr McDermotts belongings were still onboard the boat including his wallet and personal items

It is understood that McDermott often takes his son from his first marriage on the chartered fishing trips but this time he travelled alone. Other passengers have reported of him being very talkative this trip and speaking of issues with his first wife over support payments. Olivia was not mentioned by Mr McDermott which left the passengers surprised afterwards when they found out that he was involved with her.

Is there more than meets the eye here. Did he have an argument or was he unhappy with Olivia and staged his own disapearance. If he was going to suicide he would have done so before the ship started returning to harbour logically. Was he depressed or is there more of a sinister angle to all this?

Well I seem to have forgotten about that gal and to think she has a boyfriend too. Not sure there is any malice at hand yet but hope he is found alive.

THE crew of a boat carrying Olivia Newton-John's boyfriend realised he was missing while the vessel was still at sea, a fisherman who was aboard has claimed.
The claim contradicts the version of events given by Frank Liversedge, who oversees the vessel, Freedom.

Liversedge has told the media no-one realised Patrick McDermott was missing until his ex-wife, Yvette Ipar, contacted him on July 11 – 10 days after the boat returned from a fishing trip.

The fisherman, interviewed on US television, said the crew of the Freedom discovered McDermott was missing well before the boat returned to shore on July 1.

The crew then conducted an extensive search for McDermott on the vessel, but could not find him.

The fisherman said that as the Freedom was making its way back to San Pedro, south of Los Angeles, the crew called out McDermott's name at least "five or six times" on the boat's loud speaker.

OK, time for the sleuths...

Regulated Navigation Area, San Pedro Bay.

....there are two pilot areas
and one Los Angeles Deep Water Pilot Boarding Area
along with one commercial anchorage within the RNA.

...........
seeing as how mr. mcdermott made it an obvious & memorable point
to pay the Captain, for his passage, a mere 4 miles from San Pedro.

in the area of his 'disappearance', there seems to have been 4 different
known and populated water sites where a clandestine recovery might occur

they say he faked it. Clothes left in a neat pile, along with ID. no body. Probably alot of accounts cleared out, along with a huge insurance policy. look for him in south america.

PS it's very easy for an accomplished sailor to get away with that sort of thing. If they're business men, and know how to transfer their funds, it's very hard to stop.

This whole thing stinks...It took almost two months for Olivia to "miss" him and then its the ex who reports him missing?
I hope they keep us up to date on this one. I think there's more to this than meets the eye.

UPDATE 4 APRIL 2010:

Looks like Olivia's missing man has been found, even though to him he was never lost.

Olivia Newton-John's missing man 'found alive and well, living in sleepy Mexican fishing village'

The former partner of actress Olivia Newton-John, who went missing five years ago on an overnight fishing trip, is living a new life in a Mexican seaside village, it has been revealed.

Patrick McDermott created worldwide headlines in 2005 when he vanished, aged 48, just days after ending his nine-year romance with the Grease star.

Now it has emerged he is living in the Mexican village of Sayulita and working as a ship's mate on a tourist yacht.

Correct me if I am wrong, since as a heavy metal, hard rock drummer, I am just not supposed to know these kinds of things...

But didn't Olivia Newton John do a song entitled: Torn Between Two Lovers

Now if Loverboy's drummer lost at sea a decade ago turns up soon, we will really be on a roll here!

not that it's anybody's business, but we are mindless, celebrity-driven sheeple, no? wouldn't mind catching the bloke's story and figuring out why he took the "separation" one way while onj clearly had a different view. seems if you're planning to drop-out or whatever, it'd be polite to issue your honey a clue. but hey, i know nothing of these people and less of their relationship. child of the 70s, though, so dig onj's contributions to art. yes, i said it.

This is all over the 'ladies porn' mags in Australia.

Is this what ATS has descended to, a gossip magazine?

Sheesh.

Sheesh.

why would a celebrity mystery not fall under the radar of ats? ats is just people. question my desire for salacious, sweaty, ribald stories of celebrity fornication, deviant behavior and perverted tendencies, but is it really necessary to question my manhood?

besides, someone other than me saw the headline of this post and just had to come marching in here. just sayin.'

Besides, it's BTS, and a little mystery (or was)..

Seems he just went to Mexico to get out of the child support, if you ask me...
My dad did the same thing, except it was Saudi Arabia, so seen that before...
