Nature's shock and awe
Raging fast towards the shore,
Oh my, Katrina!

Less than ten remain,
Bound to tragic sands of time,
A gay holocaust.

(Inspired by documentary Paragraph 175 incase someone misinterprets gay to mean happy)

Known by CIA,
Trained by our own pilots,
nineteen hijackers.

The questions remain,
No threat to Americans,
Boxes return home.

Sigh. I was rather proud of this 13-word summary of conspiracy and blame in our political machine...
But my husband just looked at me in utter noncomprehension. ; )

You're right, 2. Stupid language? Not really, it's damn difficult though. We have to take it every year through school. In Canada French(other official lang.) is optional. Though after learning English it makes learning any other language difficult.

I guess Intrepid is having a bit of trouble with the lit, it clearly says two poems in the rules and you have atleast four.

WW bumped it to five because the hurricane kept her from being there for the judging last weekend. She gave us a bit more time and therefore a few more haikus. Very kind of her if you ask me.

This was really hard to judge I have to admit, I'm sure the judges would agree that it turned out to be harder than any of us thought it would be. You writers are all so talented and very creative. I personally was extremely impressed with your Haiku writing skills. I ended up choosing 3 winners for Ignorance Inspired Haikus and 3 winners for Conspiracy Inspired Haikus, the entries were way too good to choose an overall winner for both, so I decided to split it this way.

Ignorance Inspired Haikus.......And the Winners Are:

1st Place: The Vagabond
Answers I don't have
Hurt me not quite so much as
Questions I don't ask

2nd Place: Benevolent Heretic
Choosing not to know
He turns his back; he seeks not
A shroud covers him

Third Place: Jeremiah 25
Ignorance is bliss
Believe us when we say this
You don’t want to know

Conspiracy Inspired Haikus....and the winners are:
First Place: Mr. Wupy

Grab the shotgun ma
The new world order’s coming
There’s bankers to shoot

Second Place: Amuk
The greys have probed me
The feds read my mind today
I hide in tinfoil

Third Place: Marid Audran
the sky is falling
build a shelter run and hide
spoke the aussie bloke

Honorable mention:
Lysergic
I shot the Sheriff
but I didn't shoot Fitzgerald
lies become the truth

Thank You All for your participation, I hope you had as much fun creating your haikus as I did reading them.

Heartfelt congratulations to Vagabond and wupy! Well done guys, your haikus were masterful examples of emotive poetry and careful word selection. You both unreservedly deserve your victories. Truly, with each contest here, I am amazed at how talented some of our members are. I read every haiku over the course of the contest and some made me feel very inept indeed. My utmost congratulations to you both.

wupy, how does it feel to not be the bridesmaid any more?

worldwatcher, once again we thank you for your patience and hard work.

Well done everybody!!!

Edit: Also, on a far more childish note, take that Ms Cook from year 8 English! "Your writing is good, but your poetry, quite frankly, sucks".
