That's too funny. A prank like that is jsu tawesome. I'd love to see a show like punk'd, bot for Science and such.... Make a scientist think he discovered something important like the cure to AIDS.

There's actually a show on the sci fi channel that does stuff sort of like this, they had one where some peopel were in their car in teh woods and big foot attacked it, a guy in a realisitic look suit, etc etc.

I think one of the interesting reactions would be people who deny this whole nessie thing. I mean, depending on what the model looked like (no pic in the article), it might be very realistic. Its interesting to think that some peopel denied that it was nessie, when, for all intents and purposes, it was; it wasn't a log or a wake or a turtle or fish, it was something alien to the loch.

Yeah... I've seen that show. My little brother loves it. I think it's called Scare Tactics. Some of them are pretty funny.

Actually, it's not near as interesting an experiment as it is just another very good example of how mainstream media has completely abandoned reporting facts and opted to make drama. A news agency duped citizens to get their reaction.

i, personally, find it interesting because i have never read anything like this before...

Did they bother to find all of the witnesses and explain to them that it was just a prank? Like as not they didn't follow up.......so they've left some poor slob out there who will look like a proper fool when they insist that they've really seen Nessie!!

Things like this make legitimate witnesses hesitate to come forward!

The programme this hoax was filmed for is on tonight in the UK, Channel 5 at 7:00. So it's already started.

just watched it. bit boring, the stupid thing kept sinking and a few of them almost died! big (massive) waste of time if u ask me.

I just saw the show, it was brilliant!

I thought it was a good idea, it shows that people are quite happy to jump to the conclusion that they saw a lake monster rather than a clever hoax (which, as history has shown, is the more likely explaination).

I watched the program and did laugh a few times.

But I dont agree that people are stupid for saying they saw "Nessie". The "creature" built was very very convincing. Put yourself in their place and tell yourself you would think it was an anamatronic life size model being controled by compressed air and several divers?

To show how people can convince themselves that they have seen the monster they should have put together logs, seals, ribbon fish etc that can be misidentified by people "wanting" to see Nessie.

The hump test was interesting. When they lost Lucy the lake monster they brought out a hump that a diver put on his backc and swam about under, and even that fooled people.

People want to believe in the Loch Ness monster and if they see something they can put down to such a creature they will do.

I think the chances are if there was a lake monster of some discription there isn't anymore...Maybe died at at some point during the the late 1800s early 1900s. Legends and folk tales about a lake monster seem to date back a long time but in modern times all that has kept Nessie alive are hoaxes.

Does anyone know where I can watch that "Scare Tactics" show?

I've been trying to see it for ages...but living in the U.k

I was wondering if the locals saw the funny side. I mean, this age-old tourist attraction that probably originated from sightings of deer or seals crossing the loch, now a dis-functional robot that could barely float.

I hope this doesn't effect visitors buying the 'nessie' key-rings.

A guy who works with me in the media, saw the programme and told me that he heard that a couple of hours before the robot Nessie was placed in the loch, a local complained of a truck blocking part of the road near Foyers.
Apparently, the 'road-blockers' were putting cables or pipes into the water and my friend also told me that the police were called.

My friend continued that as far as the cameramen of the documentary were concerned, they were asked to take some time off and visit Inverness. He pressed on saying that the real Nessie was stunned in some way and switched when the retrieval of the sunken robot took place!
I trust this friend and even though some phone calls brought little information, it seems that Channel 5 may have been involved in capturing Nessie!!

I'll keep probing about this, but it seems like a late April Fool's trick.
