ZHUKOVSKY, Russia (AFP) - European aircraft manufacturer Airbus and US rival Boeing took their corporate dogfight to Russia this week, with each trying to best the other in trumpeting deals with Russian firms at an air show near Moscow they hope will help them sell more planes here.
Both aviation giants admit that Western planes are a tough sale here at present, as Russian import taxes on civilian aircraft are as high as 40 percent to protect local manufacturers. But some say those taxes will come down soon and the two firms want to be ready when they do.

"Let's not beat around the bush -- taxes are very high. We do not have the ability to alter the government's fiscal policy, but we can prove the quality of our planes," Christian Scherer, an Airbus senior vice president and deputy sales director, said at the air show MAKS this week.

When I first read the subject title I could only picture a big Airbus banking and rolling against some Migs.
