Hmmm.

I just used the map, and clicked on the first registered name I could see.

"Police were looking for a 15-year-old girl who did not come home one night. The next morning they found her in bed with , who had fondled her."

He was 19 when he was convicted, and now has to register for life as a convicted child sex offender.

I'm sorry, but that is a perfect example of why the mandatory registration and tracking of every convicted sex offender is a mistake.

There's a world of difference between the man in this example, and the 40 year old who habitually rapes pre-teens.

I fully and absolutely agree that we need to protect our kids....but this might not be the way to do it.

i do agree with you on that aspect. we need to protect our children but there is a difference...even though it is illigal the situation should depict. if the legal age of consent is 18 and she is 17 and he is 18 then why should he be labaled as a sex offender for life?

I wish I could google to see if there were criminals of all stripes living in a neighbourhood before I purchase a home there.

Vandals, B&E specialists, murderers, drug dealers, wife beaters, people convicted of cruelty to animals...all of them, including sex offenders.

And lets get rid of those laws that protect young offenders from being identified as well...there seems to be the notion that it's ok for underage kids to 'act out' with impunity.

There are 14 sex offenders on that map within close proximity to my home. Two are assults on women, one child pornographer, five indecent exposure. The other six are sexual assult with children 10 and younger. One was three sperate counts, all different kids, all under the age of 10.

Poor guys have their picture and rap sheet posted for the world to see.
yeah, my heart really bleeds for them.

Thank you for that link. I am happy to say that my neighborhood appears clean of such people.
Modern technology is a wonderful thing.

Wow I found 3 rapists, and 1 offender charged of sodomy in my area.
There's a rapist living 3 blocks from me. My co worker had a close call in this neighborhood a while ago. I think that the right information coupled with prudence and common sense is invaluable.

it's Level 3 offenders only. Those are the deemed at the greatest risk of re-offending.

Others at level 1 & 2 should not be tracked. Level 3 should only be given out to the worst there is. A 19 year old who sleeps with a 15 yr old (previously mentioned) should not be a level 3 as long as force or weapon was not used.

The big problem with tracking sex offenders is that it will spread to other crimes......before you know it we will be living in Orwells '1984'.

Plus we should review all the sex offenses for the US and compare it with the amount of other crimes involved and make a determination if tracking is in the countries long term best interest.

Right now is seems as if the issue is being sensationalised by the media.

Just One of the people out of about 6 ive known about for sometime now.

Offense: Crime Against Nature - Sexual Offense served approximately 2 years 3 months in a correctional facility. 1961 Sodomy served approximately 3 years in a correctional facility. Multiple male child victims between 6-12 and 13-17 years of age.

Thats one sick sob,
This guy might have been convicted long ago, Thing is, his house is somewhat of a hangout for local kids.... Sad thing is i know of 2 parents who know what he did and still allow there kids to hang out with him...

Agree: That guy is a sicko and I wouldn't let my nieces or nephews even close to this guy. I have a guy that lives 2 blocks away that is a sex offender. He is 75 years old and a grandpa, with a walker.

The sad thing is that his record is clean except this one time. He is 75 years old and has lived with it for over 25 years.

How do I know this? I talk to him every once in a great while. I asked him what the charges were for and he told me. I couldn't believe it but it was true.

First of all, in my opinon, if the system is set up that when one completes their sentence set down by the courts, they have redeemed themselves. Now, if that isn't happening, then we need to look at our judicial system. Maybe people that belong in mental institutions are being sent to prison instead. Since it has been stated time and time again that the mental health community hasn't been able to come up with a treatment that discourages pedophilia, or cures it, then there might be some thought as to putting these predators into mental institutions for life rather than allowing them back into the communities. Essentially, the mental health community is telling us these predators have an incurable mental disease/dysfunction.

Tracking/monitoring people is a waste of time, money and energy. The only thing that it accomplishes is creating unnecessary fear, bordering on paranoia. I'd like to know how cameras in our traffic lights, in our buildings, internet tracking of criminals prevents any major or minor crime from occurring. Security systems don't stop people's houses from being robbed, intruded upon or anything else, but all of this certainly does create a fearfilled citizenship. Murders, kidnappings, and robberies are caught on tape all the time.

Maybe, just maybe, many people in this country need to stop relying on the government and electronic games to raise their children. Not for one minute do I believe my children or I'm in all of this danger from my neighbors, or even strangers that the insurance, security companies, and government want me to believe, but then the government and police weren't involved in my parenting, and I didn't parent using electronics/TV as a babysitter. I certainly never called the government or police department to babysit for me. Monitoring children is the job of the parent.

I know there are a few registered sex offenders in my city but i feel the non-registered pedophiles are just as dangerous. I think all people who have done anything weird with a child should be on that list, most minor offenders never have to register.

Residivism rates, depending on the source you wish to believe, average out to around 50%.
www.atsa.com...
Pedophiles have broken thier tacit contract with society and hence deserve little or no protection from the society which they have abandoned.

If our courts see fit to let these predatory monsters back into society, it becomes society's responsability to police itself.

Just in this past month, in a horrific example of recidivist behavior, a local pedophile raped and attempted to murder his own daughter just a few years after finishing a seven year prison term for having raped another little girl. That this miscreant was allowed out of prison in the first place is a crime in and of itself. That the mother of this little girl allowed her deviant ex-husband to take the girl, unsupervised, is another crime. That law enforcement saw fit to arrest and not fatally wound in "self defence," is yet another crime of sorts. This monster(Tuggle by name), will undoubtedly get yet more chances in the future to destroy more lives.

Do these young children ever get thier lives back?

Now, most people would call me a bleeding heart liberal, and I am proud to be one. This, however is not an issue where I am willing to bend. Pedphiles need to be removed from society forever. PERIOD. There are no rehabilitated pedophiles.

Sunday Herald Sun Aug. 21 2005;
Bracks Accepts Pedophiles
SEX FIEND SENT HERE
One of Australias worst serial child sex predators is on the looose in Victoria and his family fears he will strike again.

This guy served less than 8 years of a 15 year sentance but sorry, to my mind 15 years is not enough for sexually assulting boys, 10-17 over two decades, let alone less than 8.
Our nation now sends sex offenders to states where they can avoid scrutiny.

Someone earlier on this thread mentioned Indecent Exposure...
Jesus, Indecent Exposure is a sex crime?? Wow so that means if you stop to take a leak somewhere and a cop catches you and charges you with IE, you are registered as a sex offender? That's pretty screwed up.

I agree with you Scott. They should never be released. These are issues to be considered BEFORE we let someone into office. What are their views on predators? And the recidivism rate would actually be much higher if children weren't polarized into silence. I don't know how they could even be able to calculate the true rate of a crime of this nature.

I have an issue with the indecent exposure stuff relating to going potty outdoors lol Rational people should be able to differentiate between someone who just can't make it to the next roadstop, and a predator. People just have to use common sense when deciding what is criminal.

i'll tell you this freaked me out. i checked my address and there are 9 offenders within 2 miles of my apartment and i live in a pretty good neighborhood. i live off of a circle and that circle in about 1 mile long. there are 7 offenders living on that circle and every one of them are for rape.

i'm glad i know this now. my wife and i like to walk and she asked me if some nights if i don't want to walk could she go alone and i said go for it..now thats out of the question. i know things can happen everywhere but i'm not gonna have my wife walking the circle by herself

Few things unsettle parents as much as the prospect of a sex offender living in their midst. Now there's a new way to find out: mapsexoffenders.com. Launched last month and still in the beta stage, the free Web site has grafted publicly available state sex-offender registries onto Google maps. Type in your address and up pops a map of your neighborhood with red flags marking the residences of sex offenders. Click on a flag and a window appears with the predator's name, address, photo and offense. So far, the site has 34 states mapped, and its developer—Orbizon Inc., an Orem, Utah, Web-development company—aims to reach about 40. (Oregon and South Dakota don't have statewide Internet sex-offender registries yet—a requirement they must meet by next year under new federal legislation updating Megan's Law—and other states either don't allow their registry information to be publicized by third parties or use technology incompatible with mapsexoffenders.com's system.)

ENTIRE STORY - CLICK HERE -

Now if only we can get ALL states on board then maybe move this international to stop these predators from raping and killing our children.

I think that is a great idea and wish there was something like that here in England. As far as I know the local police have a list of convicted sex offenders and also people who have received a caution for sex offences, but there is no way that any member of the general public can get this information. I think its wrong, we should be able to find out if a sex offender is living in the area if we so wish. I for one would move! These people NEVER change and are likely to reoffend sometime after being released into society again.

I am so glad that most of the responses here have been in favor of the websites. I really do think it is valuable knowledge to have before moving or even sending your kids outto play.
