Unix on a GBA

In this document, I discuss "gbaunix", a rather contrived experiment in which I run an ancient version of the UNIX operating system on a popular hand-held video game system using a simulator. I can imagine this to be loosely of interest to a few types of people:

  • Game Boy hobbyist programmers
  • Students of operating systems, emulators, and compilers
  • UNIX aficionados

Has anybody tried this?

There are lots of projects like this... two of which I'm interested in are DSLinux.org (Linux for Nintendo DS) and GCLinux.org (Linux for GameCube).

There's also a PSPLinux project but the site hasn't been updated in a while, plus I don't own (nor do I intend to own) a PSP... so that's not on my watchlist.

It's cool to see how far these things can go.

[STAY COOL)

What versions of Linux can they run? The versions seem very old. I was hoping to run the latest vesion of Red Hat.
