Have a look at the area around 38º 28' 07.40"N, 115º 39' 02.81"W, please.
That area is in NV, generally east of Base Camp in what some maps call
"Railroad Valley" or "Butterfield Marsh". Anyone know what the black
rectangles are? Some appear newer than others. The one in the image
below appears the newest. You can make out some kind of structures,
maybe storage containers/drums.

View it in google earth and zoom out, pan around. You'll see a
bunch of them all over the dry lake bed.

You might be. I didn't mention triangles..;-)

I think(?) they are wells. I presume water, not oil.
If I search around east and north of there, I see
a bunch of springs and wells.

But the roads look very, very dark. Not consistant
with a dry lake bed. I could understand the area
around the well being dark from water, particularly
for an infrared sat photo (Like the circular irrigation
fields west of Rachel).

I don't know much about how wells are worked
up there. Do they pump the water (oil) into tanks
and then retrieve it by truck? I don't see pipelines.
I don't think I see electrical lines either. Perhaps
they are all abandoned.

They don't look particularly secretive, except that
they're in the middle of nowhere.

They're oil wells. I found them on a topo map.
Abandoned or active, I can't tell.

I was kind of hoping they'd give me the
shortcut to Palmdale..;-)
