NEWS: California Law Would Require Lifetime Tracking Devices For Sex Offenders

The bottom line is this: We have to protect our children and other victems from these predators. The Megans law computer was a good first start. California's making the data avalible online was even better. This bill will allow not only safety within the community, it can help with crimes as well. Take the Florida case. Was not the girl alive for a while? Girl goes missing check and see where these predators have been. Is it perfect, no, its it a step towards big brother?? No way. These are criminals and predators period.

Other parts of the law would make sure that the paroled offenders would not be allowed to live within a certain distance from schools and parks etc. Each provision of this bill has come up to a vote and has been voted down. If this compilation bill is turned down the governor will take it to the people. I will actively campaign for this one!

I got a great solution, lock up your sex offenders for 5 years minimum.
They got 5 years to prove their innocence then.
At the end of the 5 years if they have not proven their innocence,.
If they killed someone, they die.
If they raped someone, they die.
If they slapped someone on the ass, they get slapped with a taser.

Varying degrees of punishment for varying crimes.
Make this a well known to all the people and your sex offenders will think twice before offending.

Think about that. Tens of Thousands of people have committed sexual atrocities in one state alone. I think maybe we should be looking at the other end of the spectrum on what ideology this state is promoting that we have this many sexual predators that we know of in one geographic area.

Of course I agree that they should be tracked. Hows about we put the chip on the blunt end of a hunting knife?

I'd go with this bill if it applies to repeat sex offenders. That takes care of the "innocent proved guilty" cases.

Well, it looks like the west is really getting it together. Arizona making it tough on illegals & now California cracking down on sex offenders. Well, it is about time! I cannot believe some of you are so concerned with the rights of the convicted.

The rest of the country needs to step up th the plate & get tough!!

I have an idea, lets reopen alcatraz and put all the sex offenders there and they can take care of each other!

With all due respect...this is misunderstanding the pathology of a sex crime.

Chopping off the offending body part will result in the offender becoming even more intent on "punishing" his victim, and because he can't use his...natural tool, he'll resort to something else.

Like a broken bottle. And maybe take his time a bit more, just to work out the added anger and resentment.

Removing the offending body part won't remove the desire or the compulsion.

Ofcourse there'll be resentment and anger. Thats perfectly natural. As far as lashing out for revenge, I dont know.

Do you think sex offenders just rape for the hell of it, just cuz they're bored? They're thinking with their little heads. If there's a procedure to somehow kill the urge...you really think they'll go out to rape just out of habit?

I live in a medium sized city in a Great Lakes state. In my city alone, there are 572 registered sex offenders, and 56 of them live within 1 mile of my home. Within that 1 mile are 3 elementary schools and 2 preschools. If tracking devices helps keep an eye on them then so be it.

What is categorized as a sex offender?

Rape is pretty obvious, but I suspect California legislators are lumping in a bunch of other things that really do not qualify as a sex offenses. The devil of this law is in the details.

Is an individual that has porn on his computer a sex offender under this law?

Is an individual that arranges to meet with a police officer pretending to be a minor a sex offender under this law?

I've not read the law, but I suspect that you will find that it will apply to not only heinous crimes but also to things that are only a sex offense to those with a vivid imagination.

Tagging, implanting, tatoos ....all are thing that have taken place one time or another in history. I myself know of a person that is Jewish and he still has the tatoos from the camps.
I know the horror of the stories he tells about seeing men, women, children being shot on the street or beating to a pulp because of just one marking or "profile" of a culture.

This my friends is something that we should take a step back and really, REALLY take a look at.

Marking, tracking, tagging of people in this world is something that is taking two steps back for a socity to do.

I used my familiest history as an example. If you cant see that then I hope to God you realize what you people in California and in the US alone are doing to your people.

Punishment yes, but not to the extent that if affects the lively hood of thier family, friends, etc... for the rest of thier life, that is to far.

Just think if they can do this to sex offenders then what is stopping them from traffic tickets, dwi's, parking tickets, toll runners, jay walking, stealing, murder, drug users, drug abusers, alcoholics.

Really, take a set, think about what you people are voting on. Put yourself in the crimials family eyes, or better yet put them in the crimials eyes. See how your life would be. Then vote.

IMHO they wouldnt qualify because I have no confidence in government agents who's job is to talk dirty in internet chat rooms for the purpose of entrapment. Yes I am, my Grandmother escaped right before the war and the rest of those who lived through the camps came over after the war. Her brothers still had the Tattoos.
