How come

How come we think aliens are far more advanced than what we are?

Yes there are a bagillion stars and universes out there...but if the big bang took place...we were all created at the same time... ...meaning we had the same amount of time as them to do what we do.

Is it because of the movies, or stories people tell us?

I belive in Aliens...but I belive they are as far technologized as us as we are truley around the same age. I'm pretty sure their civilization didn't just start the production of alien spaceships the minute one of them was born/created.

All star systems aren't created equal.

Even today there are new stars and planets being formed as we speak.

So Billions of years have pasted , and that is plenty of time to give them a head start on us .

Human beings haven't been around since the big bang I'm not sure exactly but say at a guess its around the 100,000 year mark theres nothing to say beings on another planet haven't been evolving for the past million years therefore that would give them 900,000 years on us! I know the numbers aren't correct but you get the idea!

The big Bang, well as space moves outwards from the bang so does time.

With so many stars and planets out there, dying, living, or being born, there is the possibility of life all over the universe now, in the past or in the future. Not every possible place for life has the same conditions as earth. Therefore if there is alien life, it is anyones guess whether it is advanced or not so.
I think it is just more exotic to think of aliens as being far advanced and intelligent, instead of boring little oranisms.

Yes, well if the thousands of claims are true then the aliens visiting Earth are many years ahead of us.

First I'll say that your premise on the big bang was wrong. Yes the big bang apparently is what triggered out universe to begin expanding outward. However, this does not mean that all stars and planets began forming at the same time. Also, evolution is not linear. It can take place really quickly or very slowly. And all you need for another civilization to be far in advanced of us is a few hundred to a few thousand years. It is actually more likely that an alien civilization is more advanced than us or just starting out than it is for them to be on equal grounds with us.

Yes it did, but evolution will naturally move at different rates on different planets. The Earth, for example, was formed we think about 4.5 billion years ago. If you consider that the estimated age for the Universe is approximately 20 billion years, this gives you a lot of time in which life may have developed before it did on Earth. It is feasible that another planet may have developed before Earth, therefore developing life sooner and giving intelligent life longer than we have had to develop technology and science.

Also, although we think life on Earth is about 3.5 billion years old, as far as we know truly intelligent life (capable of creating high technology to both leave the planet and potentially communicate with other planets) has only existed for about 200 000 years at the most. On another planet, with different environmental conditions and a completely different evolutionary ladder, life may have evolved quicker and intelligent life would be more technologically advanced than we are. The difference wouldn't have to be much - an alien race with a 1000 year head-start would potentially be so far ahead of us technologically that we may not even recognise their technology as such.

Having said that, the reverse may be true. lost_shaman is right in pointing out that new stars, and presumably new planets, are being formed all the time. So we may yet encounter a race of aliens who seem technologically very backwards to us.

The reason why we think that any aliens we actually encounter will be more advanced has to do with the technology required to make such a contact. Even if all they do is detect our radio waves and send them back to us, this in itself implies that they are at least as advanced, and probably more advanced then we are. If they make physical contact, then there is no doubting that they are far ahead of us technologically.

The Big Bang is only a theory and so is evolution.

In other words scientists have no answers to those questions, they only speculate. Anyone can come up with their own ideas about the universe and evolution, and have the same validity.

The age of the universe is unknowable, and so is the proposal that life just happened.

Since the question was about the Aliens that seem to be visiting us , I think the time frame could be narrowed down to the formation of the milky Way Galaxy.

The milky Way Galaxy has around 200 billion stars , with an age range of 1 to 10 billion years, , the Sun being a typical star.

So if life began on earth 3.5 billion years ago, there would be stars and planets in the Milky Way that would have had about a 7 billion year possible head start on the life on Earth.

The Big Bang did not start everything. Obviously there was something that caused the Big Bang. (something that i guess must be outside of time and space, since it gave rise to both)

There was an article on space.com that mentioned that the average star in the 'habitable' zone of the milkyway is 1 billion years older than our sun:

"We are in the curious situation today that our best modern physics and astrophysics theories predict that we should be experiencing extraterrestrial visitation, yet any possible evidence of such lurking in the UFO phenomenon is scoffed at within our scientific community," contends astrophysicist Bernard Haisch.

Haisch along with physicists James Deardorff, Bruce Maccabee and Harold Puthoff make their case in the JBIS article: "Inflation-Theory Implications for Extraterrestrial Visitation".

The scientists point to two key discoveries made by Australian astronomers and reported last year that there is a "galactic habitable zone" in our Milky Way Galaxy. And more importantly that Earth’s own star, the Sun, is relatively young in comparison to the average star in this zone -- by as much as a billion years.

Therefore, the researchers explain in their JBIS article that an average alien civilization would be far more advanced and have long since discovered Earth. Additionally, other research work on the supposition underlying the Big Bang -- known as the theory of inflation -- shores up the prospect, they advise, that our world is immersed in a much larger extraterrestrial civilization.
