Hamas has agreed to cooperate with the PA to ensure a smooth transition from Israeli rule to Palestinian. However, Hamas has not agreed to forgo military style celebrations at the withdrawal.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - The militant group Hamas has agreed to cooperate with the Palestinian Authority in ensuring a smooth transition during the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, officials said Thursday.

The agreement eased concerns over the potential for violence during the operation. But Hamas rejected a demand by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas that it forgo military-style victory celebrations during the pullout, and reiterated it would not disarm.

Israeli and Palestinian officials, meanwhile, said they would set up a joint operations center to monitor the pullout, which is expected to take several weeks.

A small victory for Mahmoud Abbas indeed. If Hamas wasnt on side for the pullout it could of jeapordized the entire Israeli pullout. It shows Abbas is committed to reining in the militants and the basic fact that Israel feels Abbas is capable, and deserving, of controlling Gaza is a major accolade and vote of confidence in him.

Could Abbas be key to a peace deal? Could that peace be jeapordized by Netanyahu's apparent stiring of the pot and attempts to bring down Sharon's government?
