You've got to be joking right??? did you go to public schools and get a full dose.??? and never got over it??

Was that a backhanded insult about intelligence because you didn't agree with my point? Nice...

Anyway, as far as sex goes YES. Men are more visual.

Women are certainly sensitive to visual appearance or they would not devote so much attention to fashion and cosmetics, but most of that is actually intended to impress other women. When you go somewhere, ever notice your girlfriend/wife saying things like "omg, her shoes don't match that purse" statements? Because women notice things like that more than men.

What we have been talking here was not window's porn. There is a vast porn industry mainly driven (read that paid for) by men. You could compare that to the vast romance novel industry (many of which are quite sexual) mostly read by women.

These phenomena simply reflect the fact that men are more visual and women are more verbal (or fantasy based as I put it in general terms).

Now...if you want a scientific answer because you think mine was too "public school", then have a look at this...

Women See Relationships, Men See Body Parts
Anne Moir, Ph.D. and David Jessel, in their book Brain Sex: The Real Difference Between Men and Women, write:

Women are not, in the main, turned on by pictures of nudes . . . Women may be aroused by pictures of couples coupling—because what they are seeing, in however sterile a sexual context, is a relationship in action. Women are not excited by a picture of male genitalia by itself . . . Men like female genital close-ups in porn magazines because it is a thing to which they can imagine doing things. Sex for men is vastly impersonal—pornography is simply meat for men. Do they ever wonder who the nude is? Not for a moment. They wonder what they would do to her.

Men want sex, and women want relationships. Men want flesh and women want love. Just as boys wanted balloons, toys, and carburetors, the girls have always wanted contact, and communion, and company.

The female mind is organized to place priority on relationship, the male on achievement. Men keep a tally of their sexual conquests. The female brain is not organized to keep sex in a separate compartment. This is a male model—as if his brain has a specific filing cabinet for sex, completely unrelated to emotion.

(This ability to compartmentalize is why a man can put his involvement with pornography in one compartment—or cellular-memory group—in his brain, and his relationship with his wife in another. He may consider the two to be completely unrelated. Many men can’t understand why their wife makes such a big emotional fuss when she finds out he has been viewing pornography.)

There is also some other great reading at the link above. More? How about if women are so visual...why is there no Victor's Secret Lingerie for Men?

Men are very visual beings. Their initial excitement often comes from what they see. So provide your lover with lots of visual stimulation. When wanting to elicit desire, wear sexy outfits or walk around naked in front of him.

I have to laugh at Jonna's post where they declare"

"I'm not going to touch that one."

Well I will touch that one.

The market in soft porn includes soap operas. No sexuality in soap operas. No visual stimulation there.

Afternoon talk shows..mostly men of course...Oprah, Rikki or what ever new ones are coming down the pipe. No visual stimulation there.
No access to dreams, fantasys,or expectations, cheaply and without rejection there either. Do I need to take a lie dector test on this one??

Also..Zeddecus..sorry ...once again..

Pornography...access to dreams, fantasys, expectations, cheaply and without rejection.

This applies more so to the genre of women as they are obviously bombarded by this 24/7 in ways imperceptable to the average dumb male. Most of them havent a clue..their thinking is so one dimensional. What a dumb bunch of guys.
Who makes up the bulk of people watching this stuff in the mornings afternoons into the evenings...guys???
How about these books or magazines. Havent the "experts " ever educated you to what is called soft porn??? I can remember the news breaking here with complaints about the covers of Cosmopolitan magazine for being so riske on thier covers and articles on the stands at the checkout where minors could see them in the open.
AS I have stated I dont agree with the premise for either gender in pornography .but what gets me is that it is socially acceptable for one gender but stigmitized in the opposite manner for the other gender..this is a double standard. They are both pornography and obscene.

Thanks ,

I don't get it, an ex of mine had the best porn ever and had no problems letting me borrow hers. Of course she left me for another woman, probably why she had all those Barely Legal and Celebrity Skin magazines, but hey it was fun while it lasted.

Actually James the idea is that among thinking people.., you know ..logic and reason,we do not define who and what we are by our sexuality. People are so much more than this.
Rather ironic wouldnt you say the womans movement going from a day in the 70s when they resented being cast as sex objects to a 180 degree reversal for the purposes of merchandizing. Even this buisness with the swimsuit edition to sell their merchandize.
My point is that pornography, obscenity is used to sell everything to the point where people dont even think about it anymore..they think this is normal. Now this " is" obscene.
A generation of people who cant do much outside of thier consumption levels.?? Living to a image which has been implanted in their consciousness by someone else.
I expect alot more from the women I see than mere sexuality. That is the very least of the skills on the list for me.
I tire of being bombarded by it day and night ..every where I go. When you come to learn of this and how narrow some people are in thier ability to becomes obscene.
I am not against sexuality ..I am agianst those who know little else or so little other definition in thier lives.

Sex in and of itself does not equate to pornography. The two are entirely different concepts...if we're using them interchangeably there's something very, very wrong.

Just as some guys are completely turned off by porn, some girls find it to be the sexual equivalent of a tub of Ben & Jerry's. Except it's less fattening and won't rot your teeth.

Whilst I appreciate the notion that pornography can become an obsession, and yes, an addiction - that's not a given. Just as not every beer will lead to alcoholism, not every porn fan will become addicted to his or her stash of movies/magazines/pencil drawings/19th century photography. Maybe the key here is one of life's simple rules: "Everything in moderation".

If you're doing something that your partner doesn't like (whether it's porn, cutting your toenails in bed, leaving the wet-spot, whatever), that falls down to simple lack of respect and/or consideration.

Sometimes though, we have weird reasons for being skeevy about certain things - look inward, and try to understand why you find something distasteful; it might just be your own point of view that's blown a little out of perspective (no pun intended); but above all, communicate with your partner! He likes porn? You don't? Talk about it! Find out why he likes it, and why you don't like it. You won't get anywhere without being honest about your feelings.

Specially when it comes to pr0n.

I agree..well in itself does not equate to pornography. Correct. But when it is used to merchandize people and seduce them unconsciously to purchase a produce and by and by think a certain way to make them amendable to the next it becomes obscene. I became aware of this some time ago and also in reading a book titled..."Sex and Power in History" This book lead me to look at the avenue of merchandizing. Here they become interchangable. A lifestyle even. Among everyone no ...but enough to create a huge market based on this obscene philosophy. And as I stated in previous posts..they start them very young now days.
I can look at my own niece. She already at the 5th grade knows the basic outline for power and beauty ..the girl stuff religion. She is going to have a very difficult time in the future against other women and with boys. It may take her over like a drug by the time she is in her teen years. I pray not. Very obscene when you see this in young people. I dont care what they say ..this is not normal. It is consumptive. There is a difference. Once again they are used interchangably here without the user even being aware of it. That is how the best seductions work.

Your point was pretty much right on .

Also..Zeddecus..sorry ...once again.. clue where you went with that. Daytime talkshows and Cosmopolitan magazine?

You are pretty far off from the "average male". You are trying to say fashion, women's magazines and the "soft porn" (which doesn't hold a candle to the multi-billion dollor hard porn industry funded mainly by men) are all proof that women like porn as much?

The whole question was "guys and porno, why?"

It's not rocket science and it's not about women liking it or not. It's about why men like it and it has nothing to do with Cosmo magazine. Men are visually stimulated. I probably misunderstood where you were going, but I think you could say I have a valid point about the men being more into visual than women. It has been studied many times and it always comes up the same.

Trust me, if women ran the porn industry...they would have stories and a plot.

Good solid answer, Zedd, but my simple response would have been simply that its simply a guy thang.

Hey guys,

thanks alot for your comments.

i just wanted to clear something up real quick,

some people have been responding to me as if my bf is the one doing this, and i just wanted to make it clear that my relationship does not work how my friend ashleys does. My bf and i communicate and he respects the fact that i dont approve of someone i am going to marry looking at porno.

so this problem has nothing to do with me....just wanted to get that straight.

Moving on,

i dont think porn is a just for men sort of ordeal at all as most of you have said. i DO think this all comes down to respect and accomidation as one said already in terms or how you go about this in a relationship setting.

and certain people have other reasons for disagreeing with porno other than it degrading a specific gender which is the argument that i hear most of the time. For me personally, i disagree with it on a matter of personal ethics and moral grounds as does my partner.

my friend ashley on the other hand has a different set of morals than her partner and she knew that from the begining so i told her this shouldnt shock her. she doesnt want to leave him though, nor will she stop complaining lol. this is why i dont have alot of friends that are girls lol. no offense.

Thanks for contributing to my thread guys.

Kind Regards,

very intresting and telling about not having alot of friends that are girls. Thank you!

I am going to make this statement one more time. Women are far more visual than men across a wide spectrum of venues..including and especially sex. Men are so pitiful and narrow minded..very one track. Visual in this one track. Women are not ..their visual stimulation means so much more and is acute across a wider spectrum than it is among men. The men for the most part havent a clue.

Television and Movies...Video..from the latin word meaning " to see" implying visual!! Got it.??? One of the most pitiful programs on television for which I had the unfortune to come across one evening is this program "Sex and the City". Watching it for a about 15 minutes..I turned the channel when I realized the content was along the lines of the Lowest Common Denominator. This is not the only program like this The Sopranos and Deadwood are along the same lines. Take the sex and foul language out and what do you have. Zippo!!! I can get this at work and get paid for it ..on the clock. I dont like to be bombarded by the lowest common denominator every where I go..including porn marketed to women.
I dont approve of it to either gender. It is just that it is acceptable to change the form and use it to sell one gender when it is taboo to another. This is sick ..obscene and pornographic..this is my point ..that it is a much bigger venue than people even think.
I am not intrested in being merchandized in this manner This, among others, is one of the reasons I dont watch sports.

OrangeTom, I have to say Im with ZeddicusZulZorander on this.

But lets change visual and mental to physical and emotional. Its the same arguement though, since you see the physical and think the emotional.

Like it was said before; a guys "reproductive organs" are not attractive to women. Women get involved in relationships for the emotional aspects of it, while men get involved for the physical. Now before i get flames, yes there are men who just love being around their girl, but dont tell me most men would rather have a walk on the beach than a nice makeout session on the couch.

And same goes for women, although women are more likely to press the physical because they want the feeling of love they get from their man when they do it.

women like the emotional feelings behind it, and the reason they like magazines is because the magazines tell them how to "get more love" from their men, despite the fact they might only be experiancing lust.

"The girl plays at sex, for which she is not ready, because fundamentally what she wants is love; and the boy plays at love, for which he is not ready, because what he wants is sex". - Mary Calderone.

I remember that being in a textbook we had at school in Religious Education class (of all things).

That's just what sprung to mind re-reading this thread.

Your resident screwed-up emotional liability who likes her pr0n from time to time

(Zedd? when we women write and/or film porn, there is indeed usually a storyline - it very rarely involves sports arenas or beer though. Odd, that

Way back when I joined ATS, there was (and probably still is) a thread about where you got your screen name.

Mine comes from one of those online quiz thingies.

It's the "What are your girl parts called?" quiz.

I don t know where you went to school but you need to check your post again closely. I know women for whom the attraction to the male reproductive organs are very pronounced and advanced. I can even say that for some of them it is the only life skill they have..anything else would take real commitment.
While Im not going to dwell alot on this line of thought I just felt that your posting was not well atuned to the reality I know.
And yes..women lust ....alot ...just on different terms than men but it is lust none the less.
I have been around enough women like and when they dont have access to their male on time .they become extreamly irate and out of control. Another word would be obscene. Turn a woman down when she is in this condition find that some dont take rejection any better than a man.
Not all of us fell off the tailgate last week....sorry.
