Interesting Article on the AP.

LONDON - They had roots in Pakistan, Ethiopia, Somalia and Jamaica: the suspected al-Qaida foot soldiers in Britain were immigrants or were children of immigrants — a new breed of recruits that underscores the changes in the organization since the Sept. 11 attacks, say experts studying the London bombings.

"These experts, who include a pioneer in personality profiling, say al-Qaida, always loosely knit, is mutating into satellites that attract local operatives bound by disenchantment with the Western societies in which they grew up. It is no longer a hierarchy with
Osama bin Laden calling the shots, they say.

"Al-Qaida version 1.0 is functionally dead," said Jerrold Post, a founding director of the
CIA's Center for the Analysis of Personality and Political Behavior. "Al-Qaida version 2.0 is almost more an ideology. ... It's an adaptive organization responding to a crisis." "

Angry Outsiders Boosting al-Qaida's Ranks

The diversity of the groups detained for the recent attacks certainly points to an evolving problem. I thougth the article was very interesting.

I think its more likely that new terrorist groups are formed every day, with the reasons stated "local operatives bound by disenchantment with the Western societies in which they grew up".

Its just to convenient and typical to blame everything to the same boogey man aka Al-Quada. Instead of realizing that there is no connection between most of the newer groups and attacks then the same disgruntlement with western society.

Al-Quada has been made the example which everyone is following.

Its like having a high profile serial killer that falls from public light. All of the sudden you have a number of copy cats doing the same thing for the same reasons the original did it.

Blamming 1 single boogey man is something goverments and people do because they need to be able to give a physical form to an invisible threat.

As I've said before, the only way to solve the Islamic terrorism ala Al-Quada, is to fix the source of the problem to stop new groups and attacks from happening and simply take out the ones that keep fighting eventhough they shouldn't have a reason to.
