"I would like to thank our British colleagues for their aid in saving the crew," Vladimir Pepelyayev, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Russian Navy, told reporters.

Thank god, the Russians owe us Brits a few pints for that one

I think I've finally recovered from monitoring this story. The lack of an on-scene reporter was agonizing. I went to ITAR-TASS and Interfax news sources right away because I thought they would stay right on top of the story, but they didn't. As a matter of fact, they were amongst the worst sources. In the end, BBC and AP proved to be better. Thank you Mayet for starting this thread.
