silly? Try telling this to me...i single handedly put out every street light in Phoenix every morning at 4:30 while on my way to work. And i have a witness. My husband, who does not believe in anything paranormal. It happened EVERY DAY without failing. For one month, we both had to walk to work, 2 miles at 4:30 am, because our van was in for major repairs. All i had to do was step outside our apartment, and poof, that light went out. Just ahead the next light would go out...always when I entered the field within the light... it was that way consistently till we got to work...in other words, we walked in the dark due to ME.
I used to laugh, because i could not beleive it. HE thought i was "haunted"

Nothing more terrifying than walking the streets of Phoenix in the dark

Now, i am in Cape Cod, Ma., and i had the same experience just the other evening walking home from my sons house. I guess i am a serious Slider.

This just happened to me again now.

I walked down to the local shop and as I passed under a street light it went out - very very dim. I looked behind and carried on walking to the shop. On coming back, the lamp was still out. As I passed under it again, it came straight back on.

Now obviously I wasn't looking at it all the time, as I had to go into the shop and around the corner, but it's not the first time this has happened to me in the past few years.

It's all a bit strange when it happens!

Trust me, I feel you. This very this has happened to me for most of
my childhood and adult life. I'm always abnormally warm even on
cold days, at time I can actually feel the electricity from the lights as
I go by, then it happens, it simply goes out and comes back on after i'm
a distance away......

Ha haa, completely agree. Although it happens to me alot as I walk at night...

A sodium lamp (the orange colored street lights vs the white ones that are mercury) when it reaches the end of it's lifecycle does this. It will slowly light up to full brightness, then poof! It shuts off, then restarts and does this over and over and over. At first it may be that it shuts off only once every hour or so, the next night maybe an aditional time and so on. Thus, it might be some time before the street lighting dept. first notices that the bulb has reached the end of it's life, and may be longer even before it is changed. As a result, some poor shmuck like me thinking he/she is super powerful with energy and all walks under it just as it blinks off. If he/she takes the same route every night, he/she begins to notice a pattern.

Perhaps a better question might be, how many of you who think you really are psychic or whatever, are powerful enough to turn off mercury based bulbs? That should be the true test!

This has happens to me all the time.. i didnt know what was wrong with me.. i noticed it when i was 16 years old and i got into a fight with my boyfriend.. a lightpole just blew out and one time i was really mad and the hole row of street lights went out.. i have childrens toys come on all the time and my radio turns on and off and turns up and down..and i cant wear watches for a long time before they dont work anymore and clocks in my house dont work..these things usually happen when im really emotional and thats a lot of the time.. im a really stressful person.. my mom does the samethings too.. i thought we were both just messed up..

I love this phenomenon! I even consider it part of my unalterable identity ... when everything else fails, when the light goes off it makes me happy ...can't explain it.

One day it happened to me a couple of times. I went over to a friend's house and told her. She balked and said, ok, let's go outside and see you do it.

So we went outside to the first light and it went off. Then she said, let's see you do it again. So we walked over to the next light, and it went off, too.

I'll always remember that. It was about 10-12 years ago. It still happens when I drive around, and it still makes me feel good when it happens because it's sort of like it's true whether anyone can prove it, or not ... or believes it, or not.

During a time of great stress this phenomenon happened to me twice - same road a block or two apart. Anyway here is more on this subject

lights go out all the time for me. i lived in a old house as a child, and bulbs blew all the time, and my father said it was because it was a old house. so i excepted that, but when i finally moved out i work at a hotel. every morning i went to get the papers, most morings it was still dark, this is when i first noticed the problem street lights would go out a few time a week, and not long after they were relpaced as a walked towards them.
since moving to the country i have not noticed this happening to me, except for this last year, when it has started to happen again, light blow all the time in my new apartment, and uplights in the street i live have blown as i walk up to them. i must cost the council lots of money. good i give them enough.

it is definately NOT coincidence. For everyone who says it is..you wouldn't know because it hasn't happened to you.

my mother alwasy used to complain about it to my family but we would make fun of her and laugh and then it started happening to me. Yes, i've heard the whole 'the timer shuts it off because it is overheating' but when it happens several times in one night every other night of the week..it's no coincidence.

The porch lights all around my house never stay on steady.. they always flicker. My mother and I are no longer allowed to change bulbs for this reason..we blow out so many lights it's ridiculous. It is no coincidence either.. it can't be seeing as how often this happens.

This happens when I drive my car or walk at night. A girl friend of mine noticed it without me mentioning it after several evenings out. I walk to work at night now, so now I notice it at a slower pace than driving... I was startled once when a high power interstate light went out just as i passed it - this was one of those 80" poles with several high power lights on it used to light up areas where several roads come together. This is real, I'm trying to figure out what causes it...

So some guy on about.com made up some stupid theory about street lights going off when you pass by them well why is it just street lights ?

Why not the lights in Safeway, or Wal Mart they are metal halide or sodium halide Lights also with the same kind of ballast?
Why street lights.... it is truly hilarious and crazy how people believe such trash.

Oh one more question will the street light turn back on after the slider has passed by or does the city need to spend our tax dollars to replace it, just think of the damages lol

Wow, I guessed I'm not alone here. This also happen to me. It happen a couple of years ago in a place I use to live. Everytime I come home at night this street light would turn off when I walk by it or approaching it. After awhile I got use to and laugh and know that this light will turn itself off when I walk by it every night. After a couple of years we move to a new place and the same thing happen to a street light near one of my house. It did the same thing. After that I never pay it any attention.

But recently a couple of days ago this happen to me once again. THis time it happens in 3 different places and with 3 different lights. It will turn itself of and on when I walk by it. But mostly it will turn itself off. I noticed that it didn't happen when others walk by it but only when I walk by them. Another thing is that if you think too much it wont' happen. But it will usuaully happen if you have a clear state of mind.

I believe that in everyone of us have some ESP. Some of you will also have the same experience when someone is looking at you and yuo look over and they also checking you out. I wouldn't say this is supernatural. I believe we as a mammal species msut use to have a stronger kind of ESP/sixth sense but over evolution we have loss that kind of sixth sense since we have learn other way to communicates.

this has been happening to me a lot. always has, but after tonight i decided to look it up and see what it meant.

I went to get food before work, and coming back one light went off, I then proceeded to walk back to work passing through the park blocks (9x1 block(s) green strip lit up in downtown) i get half way through the one block portion and bam, three of the blocks I was walking through go dark and everything else was fine, i get to work proceed to change the marquee we have outside with the bands playing that night, get half way up the ladder and the light above the doorway next door/next to the ladder goes out, go to the bathroom and the light was flickering. go to ride home and a light on the bridge goes out.......
is that coincidence? i think it's more than that.
at least 2-5 lights go out on me a day when I walk by them

[font=Times New Roman]hi yesh im from newzealand and i have this SLIder thing it started happing randomly its like id be walkign home glace at the light subconciously then just before i cam up to it it would go off this happend a couple of time s like scary at first but no big deal then when i moved city to Auckland it happened again as i was going across a brideg i thought to myself "hah itd be funny if this light went out just as i cam up to it" and holy # it did i crossed the road and kept walking recently its been getting stranger bulbs are starting to break and explode and for no reason my cellphone will turn itself off with full batery also i have this fan in my room and when i listen for a while it slows down but as soon as i notice it it speed ups... like i mean this is cool and stuff and i wouldnt tell my friends without it happening infront of them but im kinda lost about it ... this site has really helped me better understand it[/font]

it happens to me daily walking or driving for as long as twenty years or more and i am now 57 years old there is somthing diffrent about it

Appearantly this is annoynomys, but to be honest every time that i have either drove or walked beneath a street light or any sort of outside light in the past 2 years it has turned off. I feel like this phenomenon is a horrid part of my life. I cannot understand if this is truly by chance or if i am condemned by life itself, because not only is it the lights but the overall feelings and action of people around me acting as if i am a separate part of this world not neccisarily an alien but a being not worth LOVE or mutal respect!

Street lights have been going out on me for years. It's not a random incident either. I've experimented with this, and my husband walked ahead, the lights stayed on, I walked under it and it went out. We tried this a few times. We walked many times a week and this always happened. Not with all the lights though. Recently, walking down a flight which was flanked on either side with globe shaped lights, approximately five on each side, as I walked down the stairs, one by one, they all went out. This was witnessed by a student who came along behind me and he gave me a strange look as he ran by. I stood behind and they came on again, and I saw a group of students coming down the stairs, and the lights stayed on. This has been happening to me for years. Even when I'm in car at night stopped waiting for the traffic light to change, all of a sudden there will be a dimming of light and sure enough the street light will have gone out. It happens so frequently and for so many years, that it doesn't bother me, but it would be nice to know why it happens. I stopped a CD player right at the moment, I thought, "That's horrible!". It was Carly Simon singing Mockingbird (sorry Carly) I had the music on too loudly and I was cleaning my kitchen and not in the best of mood. The instant I thought it, the cd stopped. I actually gave the CD player away. And automatic doors don't always work for me either. So many times I've had to give the door a push. I never equated the two before. I'm glad others have experienced this. It is strange. I have a friend who experienced the same things over the last couple of years (street lights gong out). My husband was dubious about it all (being a lawyer), but he saw it first hand. There are other things, but I hate to sound so strange, but one other things I've noticed, is that birds on sidewalks or wherever, often pay no attention to me. I've had to walk around them, yet someone else comes along and they fly off in a hurry. I thought perhaps I don't give out aggresive vibes. Who knows what it's all about. Anyway, it's been bothering me and I was glad to find others who have experienced this.
