PALESTINIAN security forces were searching an area of Gaza City where witnesses heard an explosion today, but the cause of the blast remained unclear and there were no immediate reports of injuries.

The blast was heard in an area of northern Gaza City, which was the target of three Israeli air strikes in the past week. The attacks have killed seven Hamas members and a bystander.

AN electrical failure in a plastics factory in Gaza City set off an explosion Wednesday, and an engineer lost his hands, police said.

Residents of Gaza City have been jittery in the past week, after Israeli helicopters launched three missile attacks that killed seven Hamas activists and a bystander.
