War Vet Paul Hackett fails in Congressional bid

Well it looks like America doesn't support its troops afterall. At least not in Ohio as Iraq War Veteran Paul Hackett loses to Republican Jean Schmidt. Hackett's credibility as a combatant was called into question by Schmidt's campaign despite positive support from General Wesley Clark.

While Schmidt has more of a history in politics, Hackett embodies the fundamental idea set forth by the Constitution that any American can run for office. I would've loved to see what he could do.

Seriously, do we have to support our troops by electing them to office even if their ideas aren't sound? What do we do when more than one vet is running, base our vote purely on their military record?

No, but they shouldn't necessarily have to have a lengthy politcal record either. If you like what the candidate stands for and they have a plan to accomplish their goals, then vote for them. It's that simple and it's all that really counts.
