Why not? Thats what everyone on the republican ticket does. Nothing but a bunch of liberals running as republicans.

It's not that close, under Ohio law it would have to be within 0.5% to trigger a state funded automatic recount.

edit:

I think the Democrats will consider this a victory since it was so close and say Bush is in trouble, even though Schmidt eeked out a win. I think if they launch a full scale contest of the election, that'd get in the way of their ability to do that.

Of course, they do surprise me all the time!
