We are experiencing those same bright flashes here in NM. I wondered if it might be some kind of experiment at some of our high tech labs. Looks
like a definite possibility.
The flash I witnessed looked like very powerful lightening lasting about 1.5 seconds, but alas not a cloud in the sky.

I sure would like to know more about this. I wonder if it has anything to do with ranchers telling me there have been flashes in the area that turns night into day for a fraction of a second.
