www.cmf.nrl.navy.mil...

Set resolution 1 pixel to 1 kilometer
lat: -2 long: 311

It's hosted on a Navy website so I don't think it's photoshopped. Could it be a base? It looks like one.

Switch the 'Image size in pixels' to 768x768 and you can see it more clearly. Quite interesting.

I see stuff like that sometimes when I'm playing with google Earth.

I will blow it up and post it for others to evaluate.

It has an outline and an entrance and everything.

If the scaling is accurate and the image is at 1pixel = 1 kilometer this rectangle would be 48km x 33 km, quite a large area.

Very interesting post! What are all those other white spots though. I think it could be something on the camera.

It could be a city? I don't know. The main area doesn't look like the spots though, it looks like it's actually got a road and everything leading up to it.

Definately the same camera or geological anomoly that is producing those vertical lines in the sand. Because theyre so perfectly vertical in alignment to the picture, Im going to say its the photo mosaicing.

This coordinate has been posted at least a dozen times on here.

It's an artifact of pasting together thousands of images to make up one larger image. You're seeing one image taken with a brighter light or exposure in amongst 2500 other images that are darker. That's why it's a box (just like a photographs is).

It's been looked at by lots of people and it always comes back to that answer. It's nothing on the surface, it's just the way that section of images came up wtih the final image. You can see this effect on hundreds of locations of the moon on the clemantine site, and you can also see it in thousands of pictures of the earth on google, keyhole, etc.

Look at Lat: 3 Long: 311 resolution 1:1k and notice how the whole image is comprised of blocks like that.
