Over the last few weeks, the Italian Courts have been looking into the abduction of one man - who has yet to be named and his removal to Egypt. So far two Magistrates have issued warrents for the arrest and deportation of several American citizens and now 6 more have been added to the list.

The new warrants bring to 19 the number of suspects -- all believed to be U.S. citizens -- being sought under suspicion of abducting imam Hassan Mustafa Osama Nasr, also known as Abu Omar, from Milan in February 2003.

The prosecutors say the U.S. secret services took Nasr to Egypt for interrogation, a process known as "rendition." The CIA has declined to comment on the case and the Italian government has denied it had any knowledge of a kidnap plot.

Prosecutor Armando Spataro said the judge who issued the first 13 arrest warrants in June had declined to issue warrants for the other six, who are suspected of helping prepare the kidnapping rather than actually carrying it out with the others

I find this highly amusing. The American Government is attempting to fight the War on Terror and also alienating other Nations with such acts. Acts they have yet to comment on. If these aligations are true does this not show American in a new light?

If this is the case, how many other people have been removed from their home by the American Government and deported to other-nations. Nations which do not always have the best huma rights records to get the information that the Government desires.

He has been named.

Whats interesting about this news story is that Italy is a U.S ally. Why is a storm brewing between two traditional allies? Why is the United States government not forthcoming with an explanation or a rebuttal of these Italian claims?

Does it stem from the Calipari incident? Does Berlusconi pin his hopes of re-election on fostering anti-American sentiment in Italy?
