Okay, I don't know if this is Medical Forum,
Current Events forum, or Spiritual/Religion Forum.

This fellow claims that the Virgin Mary has given him
a cure for AIDS. He provides the cure free of charge
to anyone who wants it. There are charges that
a European company has stolen the cure previously
and that the African Nation of Rwanda is not allowing
him to give this medicine away anymore.

- Why is Rwanda not allowing it? Is it toxic or lethal
in some way? Cutting short the lives that are already
being cut short by HIV? Or is it ignorance by Rwanda
or some political reason?

- Is there merit to the claim that some European company
stole the cure and isn't releasing it?

- The Catholic Church will not comment on any alleged
vision of Mary until the alleged visions are 'complete'. Then
they will investigate. At this point, the Rwandan Bishops
DO NOT feel the Rwandan 'vision' is authentic. Rome
can't say until they are 'finished'.

- Is it possible or probable for a spiritual being, an angel, a saint to
give us a cure for a disease? Sure it's possible. With God all things
are possible. However, has there ever been any other case where
God has given medical advice to humans through angels or (dead)
saints? In my readings I have not come across any such happening.
The only one is St. Raphael in scripture giving the cure by telling
the human being how to fix the fish in a certain way. Remember?
Other than that ... from heaven to us .... nothing recently. But
that doesn't mean it won't happen.

Mahoro a young man from Butare province of Rwanda has become a house-
hold name in Rwanda due to his claims that through the appearance of the
Virgin Mary, he was shown drugs that can cure HIV /Aids and ever-since,
he has been administering those drugs to HIV /Aids patients, not until a
couple of weeks ago when the Ministry of Health ordered him not to
continue administering such drugs any more.

A critical analysis of Amahoro's case will immediately confirm the poor man's
technical knock-out in the area of HIV/Aids cure. However, Mahoro is not
only the first person to claim the discovery of HIV/Aids cure. Many other
people including, outstanding professional medical experts have
undergone the same persecution as Amahoro of Rwanda.

I can remember very well KEMRIs renowned Professor of medicine and a
leading researcher in HIV/Aids cure since the first HIV/Aids case in Kenya
was reported. He found himself into the drama of HIV/Aids cure in the
name of Kemron and Pearl Omega. Professor Obel has been the pioneer
and master mind of the research which led to the discovery of those drugs
under the auspices of the Kenya Institute of Medical Research (KEMRI) and
the Kenyan government.

Professor Obel, his team from KEMRI and HIV/Aids patient who used
Kemron claimed that it was "the drug" regardless of none of its entire
scientifically exhausted procedure as HIV/Aids drug. The persecution that
ensued came from the government officials, medical experts including
some of Obel's own peers in the medical circles. The drug was eventually
banned by the government and ever since has remained in mystery to all
those people who are related to it in Kenya and probably Africa at large.
Here though the ban was implemented the formula of the drug's
manufacture was stolen by some European company and it is now been
manufactured under the different name and different combination then
supplied to us in exorbitant prices in the name of ARVs! Nobody had
justified this and so I am innocent of what I am saying.

has there been a followup to this? did they prove or disprove his enlightenment on the aids cure?

This is all I could find. I don't know if anyone else has any info on it.
That's why i posted it. I found it interesting. It has medical, pollitical,
and spiritual consequences.

If there's any truth to it, yes, it has huge ramifications.

Sadly, with no mention of the drug - or even the type of drug - it's hard to verify.

Are there any substantiated claims to support the notion that it's actually cured anything?

Yeah, I'm not sure what you want us to comment on here. What drug? Who did it "cure"? Where is any evidence of this miracale at all?

This guy Amahoro might not exist at all for all I know.

Some of this article makes very little sense:

A critical analysis of Amahoro's case will immediately confirm the poor man's
technical knock-out in the area of HIV/Aids cure

I mean, what does that mean?

Looks like the original text was put through an automatic translation tool or something...with really strange results

(I'm thinking "knock-out" should be "know-how")

I'm not sure. Comment on whatever ya' like I guess.

- was wondering if anyone else had heard of any of this and/or
do you have any more info on testimonies of cured people, etc?
- AIDs cures in general being supressed?
- WHY would anyone supress a cure?
- Possible supernatural involvement?
- Comments on the theological and/or new age thoughts on
supernatural involvement in a medical cure. I quoted one
from O.T. Anything since? I don't mean 'healers', I mean
where a spirit and/or other worldly being gave us a cure
for something. There have been miracles at
Lourdes and those .. but I mean where someone otherworldly
came to us and gave us a medical cure for people in general.
Like Raphael giving the cure by telling how to use the fish ...

Probably because he claims that the virgin mary gave it to him. Heck, he's probably a fraud and the government hasn't even banned it.

Is there merit to the claim that some European company
stole the cure and isn't releasing it?

God send mary via a miracle to give him a miracle cure.....and an evil pharmacutical company knew this and 'stole' it from him?

But that doesn't mean it won't happen.

Sure doesn't mean that it did happen here tho. If god wants to give us a cure for aids, he'd give it to a pharmaceutical company president and tell him to manufacture it for the whole planet. hell, God'd just snap his fingers and eliminate aids in alltogether.

Like Raphael giving the cure by telling how to use the fish ...

Not familiar with that.

There have been miracles at Lourdes and those

Miracles, of course, can't be proven tho. All we have are reports of miracles, not 'evidence' of them, indeed, miracles aren't going to be subject to scientific investigation.

Probably. But I'd like more info. I was hoping someone would
know more about this. Apparently not. oh, and I appreciate
your thoughts on God going straight to a pharmacutical company
with a cure, that would seem to make sense, but throughout
history God has used the humble and/or the youth to get things
done because they had not yet been corrupted by the world.

Just one example that shows a theme throughout the bible -
King David had what ... 6 older brothers? When the annointing
time came, God didn't choose any of the older more worldy-wise
brothers to be future king. He chose the humble youngster that
was out tending the sheep. This 'theme' runs all through
scripture.

Like Raphael giving the cure by telling how to use the fish ...

Not familiar with that.

Read most of Tobit it will give the 'indepth' stories. However for a
summary - Tobit 3:16 - The prayer of both was heard in the presence of
the glory of the great God. And Raphael was sent to heal the two of
them: to scale away the white films from Tobit's eyes and to give Sarah
the daughter of ........ etc etc'

The blindness was cured by a concoction that the angel Raphael told
Tobias how to make, using a fish.

The "source" of this herbalist's knowledge and healing ability - whatever they may be - should not be the issue here.
The traditional healer Isidore Mahoro is well known, his address can be easily verified. That he enters into some sort of contact with an invisible , ah - let's say, "entity", is more difficult to confirm, bet watching him does give one that impression. Who tha or those entities are is impossible to establish: he says it is Bikira Mariya - the standard response of many catholics who see or claim to see visions and hear "messages".
But that's not really the point: many people claim to have been helped by that herbalist's brews. Most of the herbs are known by all traditional healers - and by most Rwandans who are not professional healers, but who have seen them used all their lives, for various ailments.
The question is: should the government of Rwanda have banned these herbal remedies outright, or should they have simply cautioned people to be careful (no claims of death or harm have been recorded, whether from Mahoro's "rivals" or his detractors in the police, local authorities, the Ministry of Health, the HIV/AIDS care organisations...) and then carry on with the tests.
Whether the "source" of Mahoro's herbal knowledge is the Virgin Mary of the fellow's great-grandmother does not matter.

Dear members,
If anyone would like more information on herbalist Isidore Mahoro please let me know. I have visited him at his home in Mbuye, Rwanda twice and video recorded testimonies of about 9 of his former and current "AIDS" patients. I have just found this positive and up to date article relating to his treatment's success:

Research on Mahoro’s HIV/Aids ‘cure’ on course

BY PAUL NTAMBARA

SOUTHERN PROVINCE

HUYE—The infamous traditional herbalist Isidore Mahoro is back in the news, this time around for the right reasons. According to authorities at the Institute of Scientific Research and Technology in Butare, tests on Mahoro’s purported HIV/Aids cure are nearing completion.

According to Dr Marie José Bigendako, previous tests at the research centre indicated that Mahoro’s drugs had positive results on patients.

“Research on a drug is a long and tedious process. A single test cannot tell if a drug is effective or not. After carrying out tests at our institute, we sent samples to Belgium where more tests will be carried out,” said Bigendako.

Researchers there have communicated that their work is complete and that they are compiling a report on their findings that will be delivered on October 13.

Professor Bajyana Emmanuel, dean of Faculty of Science at the University of Rwanda, who is also part of the team researching on Mahoro’s drug, said that tests in Belgium focused on the toxicity of the drug.

“We wanted to find out if the drug can have negative effects on a patient taking it. After results are delivered, research will continue,” said Professor Bajyana.

Isidore Mahoro who was also in attendance at the celebrations to mark African Day of Traditional Medicine, being held for the fifth time, said that he was eagerly awaiting results from the research.

Mahoro, a resident of Buye in Muhanga district (formerly Gitarama) came to light in 2004 when he claimed to have found an HIV/AIDS cure through the “inspiration of the Virgin Mary.”

Many people, desperate for a cure thronged his premises. The Ministry of Health moved in and stopped his operations. He was advised to cooperate with the Institute of Scientific Research and Technology to do comprehensive research on his purported HIV/Aids cure.
