What is the best games console ever?

I dont mean which is the best as in technology wise (PS2 all the way), i mean the one that gave you the most pleasure or was leagues ahead of the competion at the time!

For me its a hard choice between the NES and the Mega-Drive!

Heres a few more that ive loved over the years.....

The NES.....

The Mega-Drive.....

The Atari 2600.....(My first ever console)

And of course, the Master System 2.....(remember Alex Kidd???).....

You're joking right? The best console technologically is the XBox hands down there is really no debate about that one just look at the specs.

Best Platform to play games on is the PC IMHO.

Super Nintendo. The games were simple and effective, you could just pick them up, no storylines. Now you need to have at LEAST a half hour on hand to play games... you need time just for the system to boot up. Games are great today, but the Super Nintendo Entertainment System will always hold a place in my heart.

Street Fighter 2 on the SNES was amazing!

I agree with Smiley Man... Super Nintendo is possibly the best game console there ever was... Easy to use, no uber complicated plots...
However, there will always be a place in my heart for the Atari as well

Well, xBox is the better machine, but only recently has it's reperrtoire of games challenged the PS2. The PS3 will give 360 a huge run for it's money, I expect it to beat it in performance by a lot.

Ok, now don't flame me for these.

1. N64 - The second best controller out there (playstation beats it, PS2 controller is perfect, but not the PS3 one...) but the games, man, the games! N64 has what, IMO, are still some of the best titles with the most reply value. Mario Kart? Smash Bros.? And, inargueably the best video game ever, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. You can't argue with that.

2. And that brings me to my next pick, the Revolution. Very little is known about it, especially how it's designed. What is known is that you'll be able to download old Nintendo games to play on it. Theoretically, you have the potential to have any Nintendo title on the Revolution, which would give it the largest selection available, by far, with some of the best titles exclusively for it, and brought back on a large and improved scale. If it can secure a few key games this round, they're set.

3. The Odyssey. Just because.

Yup, I agree Super Nintendo. If you made a list of the top 100 games ever I bet half of them would be from Super Nintendo. I play SNES roms more than any current games. It's not even for nostalgia, those games are solid

I liked the super Nintendo but I found the NES to be better, mabey because I'm hopelessly stuck in the 80's.

The 2600, without a doubt.

Not because of its graphics or power, but because of what is was. It helped to define every child of the eighties.

Although I'll be buying a ps3, as I said already, the revolution has everyone beat there.

It's close, between the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) or the Nintendo 64 (N64). But seing the first console I actually owned was an N64, I'll go with that. I had a lot of great games for it. Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart 64, Starfox 64, Goldeneye, Pokemon Stadium (yes I liked that one, kicking pokeass in 3-D), Kirby and the Crystal Shards, and Super Mario 64 all made my day.

Anyone of those I could pick up and play, and have so much fun doing so. That and the multiplayer parties I threw with my friends were the best we've ever had. We've tried multiplayer parties with Gamecube and PS2, but they just aren't as fun as the N64. Seriously, we've literally stopped playing modern consoles, pulled out my N64 and had a blast.

However I think Revolution is going to take the pot simply because it'll have the best of the N64 and the NES. Both were amazing systems, and seing as Revolution will combine it's games with it's own, I'm very excited. Even if Nintendo didn't make new games for Revolution, I think it would still be the best out of any console ever made.

SEGA Genesis!

More games produced for it than any other console in history! (Still holds the title, oh yes..)

When it came out and people got a look at the speed of it *sonic* compared to NES, it "wow 'em."

Besides, the controllers were so much better than the NES, they invented the "fit your hand" idea.

I still have it, and its excellent. Puts mario to shame it does..

playstation 1 and 2 can never be the best console ever as they are cd form and you have to wait 3 hours just for your game to load = lots of minus points.

i think it'd have to be the nes or snes as you can't beat a bit of mario 3, super mario world, street fighter etc. plus if it wasn't for the nes we wouldn't have all the different consoles today.

my top 5...

1) nes
2) snes
3) mega drive
4) ps2
5) and all the rest come an equal 5th
