Ya, isnt it also said that in order to prime someone they need to be young.. Say between 12 and 25 or something.

If you get some moron off the street at say 35 or something, wouldnt it be harder to conform them to how you want them to be... Unless that person wants to be conformed..

As for myself if they threw me into basic training I wouldnt want to go with the program fore a few reasons.

1) Dont care to much for athority figures.
2) Dont care at all for this war. If they want the oil then go over and get it, leave the rest of us out of you bs.
3) I wouldnt even want to go over there even if they was paying me mad money to do it.. which they arent.. so thats even less incentive..

That would be a pretty big problem, Thich. A big part of the military's training now is undoubtedly psychological. They remodel your brain so as to not think of yourself as a free-thinking individual anymore so much as a part of a group that unquestioningly answers to authorithy. Maybe in light of that, it makes sense as to why so many military nuts are so quick to eat up what the government says.

I hear dishonorable discharges aren't really that desirable, though.

How successful do you think this would be:

"Mr. Peeps, you are now a GI, General Issue. Your country has called upon you to keep America safe and return us to the days of the blue terror alert. How does that strike you, son?"

"Cool. ...but I think I'll probably kill my commanding officer."

"Eh?"

"I'm not a big fan of this war. I'd have to go for the other side, like that army guy with the grenades rolling into his superior's tents. That'd be me, probably."

"Uh, never mind Mr. Peeps, we'd prefer you stay home."

...Of course, I don't think this way, but I'm curious if they'd still accept you as a draftee if you are totally freaking insane. If you state it right up front, why would they want to take you? I mean, you might end up with a couple of homeland security truckers following you around everywhere, but isn't that better than being IED'd in some freaking desert?

If there's 100,000 soldiers being fired upon, and say, five of them die per week for a year, that's not a lottery I want to be a part of. I want better solutions to the world's problems. I don't think we need oil all that much, frankly. I think biodeisel can solve a lot of our problems.

I do not think I could ambush or otherwise seek to kill an Iraqi or an Afghani in a war zone. I'd fire over their heads or try to avoid combat. Does that make me a coward? I guess if there's a draft we will find out for real.

Well Cargo, I have to pay for my education since I had to actually PAY for it as this great socialist sociity you love did not give me a free ride as it does non citizins and the like.

With that debt, even with an officers pay, my income would not be enough to support my family. Its not greed by any means as I am not materialistic.

I still have 5 years before I can get most of the loans paid and since I keep my word, I will pay them.

Hum, never mind ed he will never go for it, he is to comfortable at home.

My husband as a retired Marine feels that it will be a big mistake, first the age problem with health, also the authority problem.

He said that as you get older you know better and most people will not make mistakes two times.

But if the right brain washing campaign is launched to attract people in this age group it may work.

Something like "we will erase all your debt" or” we will not give you a bonus but will pay for your children’s education"

That sounds more attractive for an older family man or woman.

But if they pull the draft up after they enstate this, then they dont have to give us anything..

They can make us do whatever they want, only other way to get out of it is to go mental or something like that.

Thats where I think the problem will be.. they will have to many old school people who dont give a # either way..

The war will get way worse than it is now.

This whole thing is to help attract and or make it easier to get skilled proffesionals into the more technical or "professional" type positions. This has nothing to do with trying to create 42 year old grunts.

I agree with aboutime profesionals in the 40's age group will ot join, they have not need for it.

This will target low income families with stablished families in need, or single parents with children and not partners.

Its another way to target the growing needy in their old age so they will not become more of a burden to the government programs.

No I mean free tuition to those that give nothing in return...not an earned scholarship or company funded deal.

Non-Citizens can come in and get free tuition, and SUPPORT for their families to get the education, I had to borrow to get mine.

We pay back our gov subsidised higher eductaion as a percentage of our annual salary when we start earning income. Interest free of course. But hey, we have a population of 20 million, I guess such a system wouldn't fly with 300 million. I'm not American, ed.

Anyway, the point of my post seems to have escaped you. Extremists terrorists are willing to give up their lives for their cause. If you plan on defeating it, you might need to consider making some kind of sacrifice. I mean, your kind who talk the talk and prop up this war have a duty to walk the walk. There are kids over there now who think the whole war stinks but still wake up in the sandy grit and strap kevlar on each morning. It only seems fair that crusaders at home eat one last twinkie and step up to the plate.

I don't say this to be spiteful, I say it because it just makes bloody sense.

They need more people to fight Bush's future wars.

So, after letting the corps lose all of those jobs to "outsourcing" & corps closing down (due to scandals, no less), Bush seems to finally be keeping that promise to raise the employment rate...With the only jobs that a President really can create...Commiting mass murder (that always occur on both sides of any conflict).

I don't agree...

Even though I'm still over that new recruiting age, have already "done my time" & even being the last surviving son in my family line.

I should have known that there might be some payback for beating a general or someone high up in an online game of Axis and Allies. First Bush announces an axis of evil and then this.

If they are really serious though, maybe they should offer free gym tax credits for those in their 30's and 40's so we can be in better shape if we need to do more than give out our technical expertise. Any successful trade or deal usually involves a win win scenario for both parties. I would be for free gym tax credits as well.
