The high-tech C4ISR arena is crowded with innovative programs — some already in production and others in various stages of development. So when we decided to select what in our view are the top 30 programs, we knew we had our work cut out for us.

We set aside total program cost, which is the easiest way to prioritize programs, and tried to identify those efforts that promise to have the greatest impact on the military operations of the United States and its key allies, particularly in terms of increasing war-fighting effectiveness.

The 30 programs are broken down into six categories: manned ISR aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and combat air vehicles, communications systems/satellites, reconnaissance satellites, sensors, and two systems enabling network-centric operations. We’ve ranked them in each category.

Top new communications systems

Top new recon satellites

Top new sensors

Top new net-centric systems

Five more systems to keep an eye on

They all sound pretty cool. Perhaps someone can provide a list of top new non-U.S allies C4ISR systems.
