I hope one of you computer gurus can help me out with this annoying problem I’m having when I try to “drag and drop” a file from my desktop to a file folder on my hard drive. When I “drag and drop” the file from my desktop it creates a copy in the target folder rather than moving the file.

This is so annoying…as it is now I need to right click > Cut > Paste to the folder I want the file in to prevent a duplicate from being created.

Please can you help?

It is annoying.

Instead of dragging the file while holding the left mouse button, drag it while holding the right mouse button.

When you release the right mouse button it will prompt you with the choices, copy here, move here, create shortcut here, or cancel.

Just select the choice you want.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I’m surprised there’s no way to change how this action is handled. Oh well.......the right click drag function is better than the alternative. Again thank you.......

Ctrl-X - Cut/Move
Ctrl-C - Copy
Ctrl-V - Paste
