Government funded youth centers as fronts for radical Islamic recruitment in Leeds. Wow, how can Blair be shocked, he paid for it!!!

The Globe and Mail

"LEEDS -- The transformation of four young British men into terrorists appears to have taken place at a government-funded storefront youth centre in Leeds that, according to youth workers, was a hub of radical Islamist activity.

The centre was sealed off and searched by police yesterday after three of its workers said in an interview on the street outside that at least two of the suicide bombers had been "very regular" visitors at all hours to the Hamara Youth Access Point, and a third had been seen there occasionally.

"It had become so radical and so hateful that I asked if I could stop working there," said one of the workers, who along with two others described the storefront drop-in centre as a hub of radical Muslim politics and a hotbed of Islamic organizing, routinely hosting mysterious figures to speak about extremist politics...."

The West needs to start picking things up at home. We are infiltrated, and not only that: We are paying for it. Think about it, how much of the explosives used in this and other attacks have you and I payed for? How much of the training?

*sigh*

i thought being that Brittain is pretty-much a solcialist country, everything was paid for, in part, by tax dollars, especially youth centers and the like. so, would it really matter where they were recruited?

Of course it does. Who is to say that if this place wasn’t more closely monitored by the people holding the purse strings extremism wouldn’t have been able to prosper? I am not suggesting doing away with such places, but don’t just blindly hand out cash only to have no idea where it’s going.

It’s funny, if the manager or the supervisor of this place was pocketing this money and taking advantage of the system instead of recruiting terrorists, people would be outraged. But instead they used it to further radical political agendas that led to the death of dozens and we are supposed to be complacent?

I think this news is the biggest to come from the tragic incident so far.

No big deal because the UK Gov't fund thousands of youth centres in the UK and most are run by local volunteers. They could just as easily blame McDonalds for not picking up on almost every crime that happens because criminals have been there at some time or other.

How many McDonalds are being used as radical Islam recruiting centers? I believe the point skippytjc is making is that there is no follow up on the youth centers and other government sponsored centers. The facilitators in these places are being allowed to do whatever they want in there with no one checking up on them. If I was putting my money in a youth center, you better believe that I'd keep close tabs on what was going on there.

My point exactly!

How many UK youth centres are used as radical Islam recruiting centers?

In the UK, a youth centre is usually somewhere for kids to go and have a kids disco, BBQ etc. about once a week. They are held in villages halls, schools, scout huts etc. throughout the UK.

Yes there is! They work very closely with the local police. I live in the UK by the way.

That's not true at all. They have background checks, and work closely with the local police.

Then perhaps this particular center is one that slipped through the cracks. It is easy to make a blanket statement like you and I both have. All centers apparently are not as either of us have described them. I am sure that many are wonderful places and are run as intended.

I appreciate the view of someone who has actual experience with these centers. It's a little far out of my way for a visit. Thanks for the info.

I've done some searching, and it seems that this place wasn't actually a youth centre at all, but more of a local education centre (for all ages) funded by the National Lottery, the local college, and local council.

The only link to the UK Gov't is that they have IT access to online courses from learndirect which is gov't backed.
