The latest way of taking out tanks the french are using in libya.

500 pound concrete filled laser guided bomb.

The impact on the top of a tank of 500 pounds of steel and concrete going terminal velocity just goes right through the tank like its butter.

7.62 and 50 cal DU at close range, last chance to save your but if it you vs tank, you loose, but then this is war and what if so there you have it www.journal.forces.gc.ca... from the link

U.S. sniper and special forces teams had 7.62 mm and 12.7 mm (.50 cal) DU ammunition, although expenditures are not readily available
lets just say ... heck of a lot.

I wouldn't even waste my time and ammo trying to penetrate a tanks armor. The Iraqi's used RPG's and waited til the tank passed and hit the weakest point, the radiator in the back.

If it was a well orchestrated battle, striking at the fuel and ammo supply that HAS to follow along at a distance would render a tank battalion stranded on the battle field.

The heavier the tank the more fuel it uses.

There will not ever be a war again where both sides gather on a battle field and engage each other.

The logistics of getting the supplies there would make it prohibitive.

The only reason we had some success in Iraq was that they were always in a defensive posture and never went on the offensive.

Bull, defensive or offensive their mistake was waiting too long and having a moron for a leader.Even If they had rolled it would have made our job easier. We had them on range and individual skills. If they went NBC that would have gotten ugly...for them.

Exactly, Saddam's forces were a disgrace, they were not trained and coalition forces had every advantage. Regardless of what the Lions of Babylon would have done, it would have resulted in defeat.

However, hitting fuel/supplies would very quickly hinder any attack by M1A1's, Saddam just lacked the strike capabilities. Very similar to what happened on the eastern front in WWII, the Soviets never needed to destroy Panthers & Tigers on the ground, they needed do destroy the supply trucks, and they did it with great success. An army moves on its stomach, and you can only advance as fast as your fuel trucks.

The easiest way to defeat a tank is with another tank. Yes i know im stating the obvious. Take into consideration the american m1a1 abrams main battle tank. Its normal load is a depleted uraninim shell. think of a missile nose cone. some icbms have multiple warheads that seek out other targets when the nose cone breaks. the shell works like this. whats actually fired after the shell splits apart is a spear like round. This uses no explosives and kills other tanks with pure kinetic energy.

Just use artilery or if you can't get that use POT or TETHER mines to knock out the treads then sneak up and kill the crew. C-4 is always a good idea. Or go prank style with a patatoe in the tail pipe.
