A row between the French and British governments has erupted over claims from French Interior Minister, Nicolas Sarkozy. Sarkozy claims that the
British delegation to the EU terrorism meeting told him that the London bombers were arrested last year but were released to break a wider terrorist
network. Charles Clarke has vehemently denied Sarkozy's claims and said "Mr Sarkozy was inaccurate, shall I put it gently, in suggesting that there
had been a discussion of this kind because there was not,"
Home Secretary Charles Clarke has denied some of the London bomb suspects were arrested last year.
French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said the UK delegation made the claim at an EU terrorism meeting.
Mr Clarke said the comments were "completely and utterly untrue", and said there had been no conversation on the issue.
Officials are adamant the men were not arrested and then released in order to break a wider network.
Mr Sarkozy said: "It seems that part of this team had been subject to partial arrest."

Some one is lying. Either Sarkozy or Clarke. What does the French government get by embarrasing the British government? Quite a lot. The row over the
Common Agricultural policy, the Olympics, Chirac's comments on British food etc. There is no love lost between these two governments.
On the otherhand Clarke's vehement denial is a given. He is not about to accept that they dropped the ball in such a spectacular fashion here.
Lies, lies and more lies.
