Involuntary Sex Change for Gays in SA Defense Force

This is pretty weird. It turns out that from 1971 - 1989 the South African Defense Force was using sex change, sometimes involuntarily, in attempts to cure homosexuality among draftees.

Among other cures were electroshock and anti-psychotic medications, as well as hormones.

One step below decapitation to cure encephalitis. Also, it's not curing homosexuality, it's making you a woman so you're "normal." Might as well cure cancer by making it take over your entire body so it's not an invasion.:shk:

Ignorance abound. Although we in the civilized world used electroshock for way too long, often in cases where nothing was needed.

Sounds Gestapo-ish. Certainly its been done before by some of more shady and technically advanced dictatorships.

One would wonder why the Military even conscripted them, and then go through the hassle, unless they wanted test subjects...
