Skeptic Of Madison Avenue
SO gave us a nice selection of candidates, and this set of logos was the most popular that the councilors and moderators reviewed.
One thing worth repeating is that the old logo, cool at it is, proved to be a real pain when it came to ATS merchandise like hats and tee shirts, and
led to some quality control problems with the swag.
SO kept a key factor in mind when designing the new logos: scalability. The new logo shrinks and expands well.
Compare the mental image of the new logo versus the old logo on say, a coffee mug, or a pen, or a frisbee, and you'll see what SO was shooting
for.
The logos will also feature prominently on all of ATS's affiliated sites, and in various sizes and contexts on these sites, which is another good
reason to make sure they can fit into tiny places or fill large ones.
With the new logo designed, new ATS swag can now be designed that should prove quite wantable by ATSers, including me.
This is just a small part of what's in the works. We have to be careful about what we reveal to avoid other websites copying our ideas -- and
possibly implementing them before we do -- but the new logo is about to become anything but a secret.
